Cattailer

The First colllar I got was not very accurate.
But I called the co. Left a message and they actually called me back we had a conversation and he sent me a new collar.
I live at 8000’ ft. In the Colorado mountains I have an xstray that runs far and another that goes on a lead with me. The Tailer is very nice it works well and I look forward to a longer range. You can turn the light off for stealth mode and it still tacks . I use it both ways on each cat because one id black and one is white. Terraine can be a bit difficult but walking around helps. Thank You for making this for CATS!!

Thumbs Up So Far

We live in a rural area and I have a cat with nothing but outside hunting on her mind. She can only go outside for brief periods b/c we have to make sure she’s close. I practically need therapy after looking for her sometimes.

I put the tracker on her for the first time today. She wasn’t happy. She’s never worn a collar and the tracker kept banging against her upper chest. She sort of got used to it, but I’m going to work on a way to attach it to the collar so it doesn’t swing around. The tracker works well outside. I could find her pretty easily and I think this method works better for cats than GPS for two reasons: the tracker is far smaller and lighter than the GPSs I’ve found, and cats typically cover less ground than a dog, for whom GPS is more applicable.

Inside, however, the distance is whacked, but she won’t be wearing the collar inside, so that is not a concern for me. I wish there was a way to easily turn it off and on, but if I had only one suggestion, it would be to design the tracker to attach to the collar itself instead of swinging from a ring. It gets in the way when my cat is hunting or running. If I had two wishes, it would be to have a direction to start. Some kind of compass. All in all, however, this is the best product I’ve seen, and I would buy it again. Thank you for making it. I will update this review in a few weeks.

Useful but has some shortfalls & bugs

After 4 weeks of daily use I can say Cat Tailer is a useful tool for helping me find my car or at least knowing when she has strayed farther than I’m comfortable with. The signal strength method of measurement is somewhat erratic and strongly impacted by objects and walls. Even with direct line-of-sight it commonly judges distances as much farther than they really are. It’s good for about 150 feet of measured line-of-sight distance in real-world conditions but beyond that the app may just say, “out of range.”

Even though the product has no GPS capability the app requires that you allow it to always access your iPhone’s GPS location, even when not using the app. It has a setting for ‘only while using’ but the app won’t function if that setting is used. It makes me wonder why it demands my GPS location at all. I wonder if it’s a programming bug or if it’s monitoring my location.

It’s large enough that I can tell my cat would rather not wear it but not large enough to genuinely cause her any trouble. It has indeed helped me find her when she was hiding from me and it gives me some real peace of mind if she’s out and I haven’t seen her in a while.
