Description

Explore a detailed 3D cell down to the molecular level, or take a tour through life's molecular machines. CellWalk is a beautiful new way to learn biology.

CellWalk is an educational experience that lets you zoom to the molecular level of a bacterial cell, unveiling the incredible molecular machines and processes that power life. It's interactive and immersive: slice the cell in half or zoom smoothly and continuously into molecules and atoms. Have you ever wondered how DNA looks inside a bacterial cell?

Tour the remarkable cellular processes and molecular machines inside a Mycoplasma bacterial cell with a gentle and approachable experience written by biologist Dr. David Goodsell.

This is an educational experience suitable for science loving students, scientists looking for something cool, or those curious about the building blocks of life.

Key Features:

• Interactive Exploration: Zoom, rotate, and slice through the cell to examine intricate structures and molecules.
• Atomic-Level Detail: Explore a massive 300-million-atom bacterial cell modeled with atomic precision. Zoom smoothly from a whole cell to the atomic level.
• Expert Insights: Guided tours written by Dr. David Goodsell provide in-depth knowledge of cellular processes.
• State-of-the-Art Technology: Enjoy beautiful, real-time rendering optimized for Apple Silicon.

CellWalk is a unique and new kind of learning tool. Our core approach is to combine cutting-edge and accurate scientific data, with beautiful and delightful visualizations and experiences. We're leveraging our technology and scientific expertise to bring more incredible experiences to CellWalk.

It is a fabulous start!

I’m rarely impressed by these mindful efforts to reveal the world in new ways. There are a few standouts, and this is one of them. For the first time I think I can see the steps life may have tracked to emerge into a cell as complex as this one. I’ll leave it at that.
But for the future, this is an amazingly well done basis for exploring how a cell is put together. Great fundamentals.
I did find the descriptions are a bit sparse, but they are well done and to the point. I can see future updates adding an “expand on” feature for a given topic. Maybe as a purchase option.
But my oh my, free to download (800MB) and smooth interaction makes this a big win. Well done.

Very cool in the hands of a scientist

I showed this app to a friend of mine who works in the microbiology space. He loved it. He said he appreciated the fact that it seemed to be made by folks who were scientists. While he wore the headset, I followed along via airplay. He explained many concepts and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. One thing I think would add to the experience would be for the cell models to become free floating in the space as opposed to locked behind partial windows. I’ll definitely keep this app loaded for more experiences with my friend.

Amazing

An engrossing app that draws you further and further in to the interior of one of the simplest cells that exists. But within this so-called simple cell, one finds illustrated with amazing complexity the truly astonishing interplay of individual cell components. I can’t wait to see more from this developer. Oh my goodness, give us a mammalian cell. Give us a cell that undergoes mitosis. Thank you so very much.
