UPDATE: ConjuGato is adding updates that address all my suggestions, WOOHOO!!

So far I’ve researched other apps and this is my favorite one. Other ones you have to write out but I am more interested in quickening my ability to speak. I have a good baseline for Spanish and vocabulary but the first thing I lose is verb conjugation when it’s been a while since I’ve spoken. For that reason I like that this app can refresh me when I need to. I also like that for $5, it unlocks pro, none of this subscription frustration. Some suggestions I would add that I would pay additional for are if they made it so you could rate how well you know each card so that the algorithm makes that card show up more frequently and ones you don’t know as well not show up. For example I don’t need to practice present conjugation except for irregular verbs but until I get the irregular verbs I have to practice all of them. That’s my 2 cents. Also this app has the most verbs of all the verb conjugation apps. Another suggestion I would also pay additional money for is instead of showing the card that asks for the preterite form of the word “acabar”, in context sentences would anchor more in actual language use. That said, this is my favorite app so far, thank you Conjugato for not just making a great app but also one with a cute app icon because details matter!

Thank you for the review, glad the app helps! 😊 A rating algorithm is coming in the next update: there will be a "minus" button to decrease the frequency of the currently displayed conjugation. After 3-5 taps this conjugation will be excluded from the practice. For now, you can limit your practicing range to 1–50 in the Settings – most of the irregulars are in this range. We are also considering adding the example sentences but it will definitely take some time because of the number of verbs in the app.

I feel like I’m really learning

This app has been one of my most used foreign language apps to help me with my Spanish practice. I’m not sure if the developer has made apps for other languages, but even the free version has been very useful, so I’m glad I paid for the pro version to support this developer. I can see this kind of approach to conjugation being excellent for French, Italian, and Portuguese. A suggestion for a future idea may be to have a toggle for studying irregular verbs. When it’s selected, it has the irregular tenses from the top 100 verbs, so that way people may be able to study the most used irregular verbs, practicing the hardest verbs exclusively! Also, since I use it as a quick dictionary for verbs, could there be a toggle to have the search panel always visible in the verbs section? That’s a small change that maybe would just benefit me so I’m not too worried about it.

For Spanish learners, this app feels like it’s genuinely helpful, unlike many apps that may teach words that aren’t even used every day. Having the top 100 most used verbs for free is really teaching people what they should learn first. So I very much recommend this app and hope there may be more apps from this developer for other Latin based languages!

Thank you a lot for the review! 😻 You can already filter conjugations by regularity from the Settings tab -> "Filter verbs" menu option. There you can find switches for verb forms that are regular, irregular, or have orthographic changes. You can combine it with the "Limit practice to a subset of verbs" setting on the same screen and practice just the 100 most popular irregular verbs. Regarding the search field: it would probably be better to make it always visible, but I have to check if iOS allows that – thanks for the suggestion! Regarding other languages: I'm contemplating a French version of the app and maybe a Portuguese one too. :)

When you’ve had enough of Duolingo

I used Duolingo for two years until they started forcing what amounts to upsell buttons everywhere for their trendy AI feature for 120 bucks (after I had already paid $80 for a no ads version!) But by then, I had already begun to appreciate Duolingo‘s weaknesses, especially around teaching proper conjugation. Conjugation is generally rule-based, and Duolingo isn’t super heavy on teaching rules.

This tool is perfect for filling that gap. I started to look at Pimsleur and others, but for where I am in my practice, this is what I need. I can communicate at a basic level but I recognize that my Spanish must sound super broken because of my lack of tense usage and this is helping me fix that. I’m hoping by the time I go back to where I need it, this app will have brought me a huge step forward in being able to communicate correctly in Spanish.

And it’s free with no ads!
