Real Journalism

The East Bay Times has excellent reporters who write inciteful articles on local, state and national news. I particularly like the local and State analysis based on more than superficial research. You delve into facts, often those that government would like to keep the public (voters) from seeing, even to the point of going to court to expose the facts. I enjoy the letters to the editor; yes, even those I completely disagree with. I like to know what my fellow Bay Area residents are thinking.
You could do a better job of clearly identifying articles as news and facts vs opinion, and avoiding slanting the text of factual reports to show political bias.
And, you are my East Bay Times, not my Mercury News or San Francisco Chronicle, so tell me about restaurants, events, recreation in the East Bay, not just San Jose, S.F. and the Peninsula.
I am often astonished at the ignorance of friends who don’t get the local newspaper. Keep up the good work!

East Bay Times App

The new app was very frustrating to start, but I cautiously believe it has turned the corner. The first two weeks were horrendous on my iPad. Touching a story to select it rarely worked; either nothing would happen, or a different story or ad would highlight. That seemed to largely disappear last week. A continuing problem, however, is the replacement of “fire” with “f.e” and similar (five, final etc.).
I think the spacing continuity is better in the new app. The old tended to split words with spaces for no apparent reason.

So - looking better. (And I very much like the paper, as separate from the app.)

Digital edition meets our needs

The digital edition, which looks and reads like the print paper, provides comfortable access on the iPad in either landscape or portrait mode. I can enlarge articles of interest, search, follow links and browse very easily. I do NOT miss hassle with the carrier or wet and torn paper. We can easily print out crossword puzzles or recipes, which are more convenient in hard copy.
