Select More Photos
Please add support for the Select More Photos API from within the app; there’s no longer a need to make the user go to the Settings app to add more photos to the app’s access list.
Developer Response ,
Thanks for this feedback! I will investigate this and improve the permissions. If you have any more thoughts, feel free to send me an email through the app.
Does exactly what was intended in a very specific case
For my specific purpose, it does exactly what it needed to do. My camera has two extra bytes of data on the end of the camera string that make its raw files incompatible with everything (Canon R5 C), but removing those two extra bytes reestablishes compatibility (Canon R5) because other than those two extra bytes, the raw files are exactly the same between those two cameras.
Now, I'm not sure this specific use case is worth the price of admission, but I admit I have a skewed perspective. I have a fairly extensive background with computers and access to a machine that I can do this on for free in a hex editor; obviously not all photogs have this same background I have and they just want to get the dang raws off this specific camera to work on the iPad since it's more portable than, for example, a MacBook or a Windows ultrabook laptop and you can edit raws surprisingly completely in either the built in photos app or even the mobile version of Lightroom (provided they're compatible, see above).
Saves a new changed file
Update: developer sent a response which is nice. Now my issues is still the same and found an app that does the saving right to the file, app is expensive. This app in the other hand is not expensive and will work for most. I still recommend it to people.
Original: In order to save the metadata it has to create a copy of the image. This is bad as saturation seemed to have increased in some, and the file size of the images also changed. As a journalist this is a huge issue for me. If you don’t care about this, it’s an easy app to use.
Developer Response ,
The app offers two saving strategies, which can be configured from the app's settings screen. The first strategy creates a copy, leaving the original untouched and generating a new copy with the edits. The second strategy does not create a visible copy in Apple's Photos app but still creates a copy. This is due to a feature of the Photos app where edits are non-destructive, allowing you to revert all changes and return to the original image. To be able to revert to the original image, Photos requires third-party apps like mine to save edits as a copy of the image, which can be included in the existing photo or saved as a new photo. Unlike on a Mac, it is not possible to edit an image without creating a copy.
The edited image will be saved as a JPEG (also a requirement from Photos), so the file size may change. However, the saturation and other parameters of the image should not change, as the app does not edit photos in a way that should be visible.
If you are experiencing issues with changes in saturation, please email me at metadataeditor_support@andrespiza.com with more information.
