Ratings and Reviews
Great but ..
The app is great I love it cause it simple and not too overwhelming especially when your going from traditional to digital. However, there are some bugs. One case was while I was drawing sometimes the canvas would flip upside down and I would not be able to revert back to it original position.
Another would be the auto saving feature. I was glad there was an auto save feature however I couldn’t be too reliant on it because the app crashes quite a few times like 2-3 times a day. Where you think the autosave feature will save you but that is not a guarantee as I’ve lost progress.
I understand this program was made for desktop and the program itself is still in development… I see great potential in this program. And I hope it will blossom beautifully.
Great BUT the UI/UX is pain
I love HEAVYPAINT, I do. I use it for all my digital paintings. I truly learned how to color better using it. But PLEASE can the developer stay consistent with the ui/ux. I’m constantly afraid to update because I know literally everything I just got used to using will be changed again. It’s so not intuitive, and is such a pain to use sometimes when all I want to do it paint. Please just pick something and stick to it oh my god it is such a pain to deal with every time.
Well designed
The RGB sliders and brush size picker are large enough to fine tune size and color, and placed away from the canvas and phone edges so that I’m not accidentally changing the brush size (in Procreate Pocket, this happens all the time!) Not being able to zoom the canvas is surprisingly helpful for me, as I can get lost in details. Using the RGB sliders to pick color becomes more intuitive the more I use the app. Color relationships have recognizable rythyms and patterns. The simplicity of the tools and lack of options helps me to focus more on the process. I had a friend who is an excellent illustrator tell me once that realistic brush textures don’t really matter that much. So using Heavy Paint’s lack of texture effects help me to ignore that aspect of painting and focus on form and color.
