Ratings and Reviews
Not Up to Par
Tracking Hurricane Irene today and bought this app since it was about our only choice for the Mac OS X platform at the app store. It is not up to par—in fact, a triple bogey … very poor user experience. OK, I'm a professional meteorologist with over 35 years experience, so I am likely more critical. Using MacBook Pro with Lion. Many of the text messages show as available, but fail to load. Satellite views are fixed basin perspective and not available for zooming in on the storm. Menubar is labeled as RADAR, but shows SATELLITE views. No radar views available. No computer model plots available. In fact, even the warning plots are not that good. This is not much more than a poor staging of National Hurricane Center web products.
SAVE YOUR MONEY. Just go to the National Hurricane Center web page instead. The best tool for more professional exploration of hurricane decision data is Hurr Track available on the iPad.
Very disappointing
First of all, the "radars" are actually satellites. This app lacks so much. It just puts some maps and outlooks all in one place, which is nice, but would be nicer if they weren't so small and streched with no option to view them full size. For $4.99, I would like to be able to see all of the maps and graphics that are available from the NHC. The NHC website is more useful than this app.
Pretty Good
I was skeptical when I purchased this and was presently surprised. I’ve used a number of Hurrican Tracking programs over the years living in Florida and this is pretty good. It’s a nice simple interface that provides a lot of information all put together niceley and is somewhat customizable. It looks like like the development team is on the right track with this version and I am sure it will only get better with future release.
