What are Noa's editorial principles?
1. Multiple Perspectives: Offer multiple perspectives from trusted sources and empower listeners to make up their own minds on where they stand on a topic.
2. Thought-provoking: Present audio articles that inform, inspire, and offer fresh insights, through both a global and a national lens. Focus on opinion, feature, and analysis articles.
3. Storytellers: Be storytellers and educators. Help our listeners understand global topics, and perspectives, while also telling the stories of the people behind the headlines.
4. Global Impact: Ensure coverage and raise awareness of important topics, regardless of a topics popularity or ability to drive “clicks”.
5. Fourth Estate: Uphold journalism’s values as a democratic check on power. And always celebrate great journalism.
6. Embrace Complexity: Encourage thought and avoid black and white explanations that aren't followed with depth. The world is complicated and can seldom be explained in minutes. Our goal is to help listeners navigate it.

Been listening to NOA for a couple of years now, and really like how comprehensive the selection is. I like the range of articles, across the areas of my own selected interests. I find the material ranges from quite detailed to great summary or overviews. Also it is very timely and current, with important takes on current events and situations. All in all a very solid app.
Decent idea, needs tweaks

I loved this app when I first discovered it, however after some brief time using it, I have lots of feedback on how it could be improved. If these issues could be resolved, I would love this app and use it all the time:1) Queue issues: when I try to resume listening to a series after stopping mid-way, I cannot resume listening to the series again. I have to manually select each individual article and intro/conclusion. Otherwise the audio automatically stays to an unrelated article I never queued. This is a repeated issue. 2) Annoying “ding” sound at the start of each article: I listen to articles both informationally, as well as to fall asleep. After just 2 weeks of listening, I grew very annoyed with the intro sound for each article. It disrupted the rhythmic narrator when I was falling asleep, and it was just irritating when I was listening to multiple articles in a row. If it only ding when I first open the app, that would be fine. However as it is, it’s way too often.
Great up with some technical difficulties

Overall this is a great app. It’s easy to navigate, the selection of publications is wonderful, and the readers have easy-to-understand but interesting voices. The main issue comes down to technical challenges. There are often data streaming issues and some days I can’t get anything to load. Currently I’m listening to something from a publication page, but not all publications are available right now and neither is the for you section, which claims I’m offline even though I’m streaming Bloomberg and I can use other apps… These issues are pretty frequent and I’ve noticed them several times a week. It seems like it’s a relatively young company though so hopefully it’s just part of their growing pains and they’ll be able to scale out they’re streaming capabilities soon.
Excellent, but not yet perfect

The “long-form journalism to audio” space is becoming increasingly crowded, and for good reason: it’s a service that many of us didn’t realize we wanted until we tried it! And now, after having spent a while comparing the three major competitors in the space that I could find—Noa, Curio, and Audm—I can say that Noa’s offering is the best of the bunch. Their customer service is incredibly responsive, too. It’s not a perfect app or service, as there are still several bugs and issues for them to work out, but overall, Noa is definitely one of my favorite finds of the past year or so.
