STORY AVAILABILITY
Comprehensive coverage in the Southern and Western United States with more than 4500 stories for road trips in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming - with more than 10,000 stories throughout the US by Summer 2021.

HOW IT WORKS
As you travel, HearHere serves up stories based on your geographic location and interests. The audio vignettes, generally 2-3 minutes in length, combine to tell the history around you, painting a multi-dimensional picture you’re unlikely to get from a history book or visitor's guide. HearHere answers the questions we all ask as the odometer turns:
“I wonder how this town came to be?”
“Who was that mountain peak named after?”
“Who were the first people to live in this area?”

Good travel companion

This is really handy as a travel companion. Would love if it were built into an app I usually have on while driving (eg Google Maps) so I could choose to be interrupted whenever a HearHere story is available. Also wish they would up the production value a bit (voice only is quite dry). And wish the stories would give specifics about the geography, rather than just saying “here”, since I’m not looking at the UI while listening / driving. All in all a great start, keep going!

Hi Mj6986,
Thanks for giving the app a try. We've added background music to a couple of the stories and when done well, it can really add a lot to the story.
We'll definitely keep this in mind as we continue to build out stories across the US.

Great Way to Learn Local History

I originally signed up wanting to listen on my trip from Salt Lake City to Houston this last September. I really didn’t want to take the chance of being exposed to COVID-19 on a three hour flight but I then decided that driving that far would tax me at my age of 70 years. So, to be honest with you, today was the first day of listening.

My first story was about the University of Utah where I live across the street from. I listened next to Pleasant Grove where I was raised. And then Fortuna, California where I lived for twenty years and raised my two sons.

I can’t wait to continue listening and learning. It’s been fun and I have to say very informative. You’ve done a wonderful job of making history a treat for me.

Finally!!!

I have been waiting for someone to create this for years. I have loved using this app during my recent travels through Montana and South Dakota. The only downside is that if you lose internet access. You can’t access the clips. So I am hoping that development will get changed so that I can download them ahead of time so I can listen in those areas. By entering in the city I am going through and getting them ready.
I have visited so many places I would have never know about if it wasn’t for this app.

Thank you team Hearhear!

Developer Response ,

You're most welcome! Also, we'd love to help you with the offline listening issue. You can download stories in advance of going offline so you can listen to them when you lose coverage. Just tap on the story you want to download, then press the "three dots" and download. Please write us if you need any assistance or have anything else you'd like to share.
You can reach our friendly team at support@hearhere.com

Sincerely,
Team HearHere
