Getting better but device restrictions annoying!

F1tv Is still not the greatest user experience. It’s getting better though but still clunky. At least the geo detection issues have been fixed.

The login is limited to a handful of devices instead on number of streams. That means if you login on an iPhone or an iPad, then through a browser on your laptop you quickly use up all your device allocations. Then the next time you want to watch F1 you have to edit your allowed devices through a browser. Now with devices like Roku if you watch F1 in different rooms you will lose more device allocations. My kids have the F1tv app on their devices and it compounds the issue. We only want to watch one stream. In short it’s a terrible user experience and F1 looks greedy with this stupid device login restriction. Limit streams. Sell a family package with more streams, but why limit devices, it’s just stupid and unnecessary.

You got a lot to work on Formula 1

With all of the Technology that comes out of F1 none of it went into the failed attempt of a subscription based mobile broadcast app. There’s no support for the Apple TV, I can mirror it to the Apple TV, but the video on the screen is only 3 1/4 of the whole screen in horizontal view. The bottom 1/4 of the screen has part of the home screen on it. This app is so bad I’ve seen illegal apps showing pirated broadcasts of Formula 1 put together better then this. If I could I would give you negative stars because I pay for this subscription.

Year Two of subscribing to this app I’m trying to watch the live stream of testing have already being subscribed to the app for a whole year now going on year 2 getting changed even durning the off season (I understand for the Archive) this app is still a Dumpster Fire “the most technologically advanced form of Motorsport still can’t live can’t fix these stupid Bugs.

App is a poor attempt

I want to stress that I’m reviewing the app, not the content. This assumes you buy either the basic or Pro subscription.

- 25 FPS
- portrait mode only - once you start a video, it looks like it flips to landscape, but there is a big caveat:
- no mirroring. Since F1 STILL doesn’t have an AppleTV app, you would think this would be an option. If you try to mirror, it shows up as portrait on your TV. I assume this is done on purpose to prevent people from mirroring.
- Cant use VPN - I get why they do this. They don’t want people to access their account while they travel. It’s not to prevent out of market fans from buying the service since you have to use a bank card (vs a reloadable card) when you sign up.
- no audio source button. Want to start a video and switch it to your BT ear buds? You have to go to another app, select the ear buds, then flip back over.

All the pros are also available from a browser, I'm just trying to be balanced.
- the content - historical races back to the 90s. They are still missing quite a bit of races but it’s fun to watch the old school cars and racers.
- user selectable cameras - both live and replays allow you to select up to three cameras, including driver cams and a great data channel.
