This app has a lot of value, especially as a learning tool. While dictionaries like Pleco may have more material, Chinese Dictionary Hanzii has a far better layout and more helpful memorization and quiz tools. The layout is also easier to navigate. The AI lessons keep things fresh, and the HSK vocabulary lists are impressive. Lots of excellent memory aids and even an extensive collection of HSK practice questions. One issue is, that while the app has a solid stroke order learning feature, it does not have a way to test yourself on how well you write Hanzi characters. Nothing like, for example, the fill-in-the-blank option in Pleco. Or even a blank box for self-check in a test or flashcard setting. Once this feature is added, this app will be better than any competitor.

I paid for the yearly package, and the subscription shows under my Apple account. However everytime I opened the app, I still encountered the annoying ads. Sure enough when I checked my account, it still asked for an upgrade. UPDATE: Purchase is updated into account now.

I got it because I couldn’t deal with my phone’s bad built in translator anymore. I’ve been using this app daily to help with my Chinese homework and learning to recognize characters. It’s a cute and helpful app that isn’t boring! I will definitely buy premium

Don’t like the recent update for practicing

I liked the old practice interface, I don’t want to have to select 5 new words every time I want to practice since there might be hundreds of words. It is annoying to have to select them manually by hand! I also would like an additional feature where in flashcard mode, writing review can be done without first displaying the correct character. i. e. I want to have a word sounded out, then I practice writing and the app determines if it is the correct word. Currently the correct character is displayed first.
