Algorithm-driven playlists of songs are fine for many people, but Albums is the app for those of us with meticulously curated collections. Albums integrates with your local music and Apple Music library, allowing you to choose an album or shuffle albums by various criteria, and providing album release date, record label, and production credits, all in an interface focused on the album.
Key features include:
Remember the days of listening to a full album, then another random full album on your iPod? Albums can shuffle albums from your full library. Ever wanted to listen to random albums from 2001? How about random albums from your “Best of the year” playlist? Albums can album shuffle by these criteria: Artist, Duration, Genre, Playlist, and Year.
Explore your library like you're flipping through your vinyl or CD collection by scrolling through album art on the landing screen. When you find an album you want to listen to, just tap to put it on.
Albums on iPad puts even more of your music collection at your fingertips, with a special layout highlighting your library’s album artwork. It fully supports split view and slideover.
METADATA AND CREDITS
Albums pulls in any available credits from MusicBrainz and Discogs. Along with the release date and record label, Albums can tell you who produced your favorite album, and even where it was recorded.
Whether you’re on hour four of a long drive or just hanging out on the couch, let Siri start shuffling albums or skip to the next one
Bug fixes and stability improvements including:
- Manually selecting albums by Duration, Playlist, and Year, should no longer occasionally crash the app
- Opening the tracklist view on the Now Playing screen should no longer crash the app
- Improvements to the queue engine to make sure that, in the rare cases they did, queue operations.... should no longer crash the app
Should is a shaming word. Shame on those bugs.
Ratings and Reviews
Great features and UI
Very handy features, well worth the cost. Does things that no other music app can at the moment.
A bit disappointing
Perhaps it was asking too much, but I had envisioned an app that would scan my library and present me with the ability to select from among, and play, only those albums that were actually complete on the phone. Instead the app presents me with “albums” that are partial or, indeed, contain only a single song. If you want whole albums only, you still need to scroll through the “album” category in Music in iOS and pick.
Developer Response ,
This is a good idea — I only ever add full albums to my library, so it just hadn’t occurred to me to add a feature to ensure it was a full, rather than partial, album. I’ll add this to the list!
I’m also planning on adding the ability to filter out Singles. Feel free to send additional feedback to firstname.lastname@example.org
Crashes each time I filter by album duration
Also web site has no documentation.
Not clear how to only show complete albums.
Updated rating after contact and support by developer. Usage guide would still help.
