xEngine — Customize Your Safari's Default Search Engine Tired of Safari's limited search options? xEngine gives you control. Switch between a wide range of search engines — or add your own, including AI engines like ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, and Duck.ai. Privacy is a top priority: xEngine requests only the permissions it needs. On iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS 14 and later, it requires permission to view browsing history to function properly within Safari, but it only accesses the current session's URL to identify the search engine. All processing is done locally, and your personal information never leaves your device, ensuring your privacy is fully protected. Key Features: - Choose from popular engines like Brave, Yandex, Startpage, ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Duck.ai, and more - Add and manage your own custom search engines - Local processing only — xEngine never collects your data Simple. Private. Yours. Download xEngine and search the web your way.

Works as intended!

After following the instructions, it works just as I hoped! All my searches now go to StartPage. My only disappointment is that it doesn’t seem to work in private tabs despite enabling it to work in private mode. But perhaps I am missing something. I can settle for DDG at least in that scenario!

You need to grand history permission, and set “All Websites” to “Allow”.

Used to work every time, now it loads ddg for most of my searches as that’s the Safari default. Was good while it lasted.
