I've tested this app only on wmv files and it works great, but one important feature is missing that prevents me from using it a regular basis -- it doesn't run in the background, so if I need to take notes in another app while listening to a lecture (which is often) the app won't allow that. What I do like is that the app plays my wmv files very well, which so many other apps are lacking, and I also like the fact that the app continues playing where I left off (sort of like bookmarking my spot, but the video version). I store a lot of video files in Goodreader, so now I can open my video files from there inside Movie Player. Just wish the developer would add the ability to play in the background then it would be a 5 star app for me.
Can't see your avi's unless you sync with iTunes

I bought Apple's camera kit which allows me to transfer avi files from a mini video camera that records on an SD card. The avi files transfer and a generic AVI icon appears but nothing on the iPad will play the avi file. You cant even throw the file away. I thought this player would allow me to play an AVI already on the iPad. Instead the app requires that you connect to your computer and iTunes then place the avi's you want to view in the app's file sharing folder........what a pain! I know this isn't limited to the this avi player. Several other AVI players ask you to do the same thing. I spoke with an Apple genius about it and all he could say was "this is not a computer". I guess the this is only way an app other than the Apple provided ones can see an avi you have transferred using the camera kit. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! Perhaps the strangest thing is that I transferred another avi from a cheap HP digital camera and that avi played fine using Apple app "Photos" . Even the Apple genius was surprised. Again neither this app or any of the other I downloaded will see the avi transfers unless you sync / file share them using iTunes. So why do I need the iPad if I have to use my iMac to see the videos???????
Good but not perfect

This app is great, I'm a professional videographer and I use it to keep all my videos organized to show to prospective clients. The one thing I don't like about it and the reason I took off 2 stars is the inability to always start videos from the beginning. I can see why someone who watches movies on it would want it to start from where they left of, but for me it is an inconvenience to play a video in front of a client and have it start from the middle or end and have to pause and slide to the beginning. It would be great if the user could decide whether they always want videos to start from where they left off or from the start. Also, every time there is an update all my folders get deleted and all my videos are all together and I have to remake all the folders and put all the videos in again. Thats a big inconvenience being that I have over 30 videos and add new ones on a weekly basis.
Really good quality player for iphone

This app is actually pretty good. Features I like:Being able to secure or lock a folded is very nice. Keeps unwanted eyes that much father away. And the amount of file types this can play, is very nice.Downsides:Sorting the videos is sticky, haphazard at best. You have to individualy select (not the end of the world) but 3 out of 4 times I would push the video title instead of its image and attempt to rename it. Nothing big but just annoying after awhile. Then the skipping around, the fastforward buttons take you back just under 30 seconds. If I am watching something and miss a sentence I jump back but for a full 30 secs, not the10 i wanted. Anyway, i would prefer a "swipe" like in imediaplayer where you can swipe to fastforward and rewind that 10 secs whereas the button could stay at 29. Overall good movie player, however there are some rather sticky items that unless you are an extremely patience person could become annoying.
