Fantastic barcode scanner, from the OCR / imaging experts

For years I had been looking for a decent DMC scanner and downloaded probably a half dozen, none of which really worked well for everything. I stumbled across this app (when it was still called Manatee) about two years ago. Since then, I’ve used it for barcodes and data matrix codes alike, down to a size of around a ballpoint pen tip. I don’t usually rave about apps, but this is the only review I’ve ever written for one — I’ve been that impressed. For those looking for something simple that reads everything, this is the app.(For those not totally happy with the app — there are some settings that might need to be adjusted. I had to enable multi-angle reading, for instance, and also changed the time before trying another focus.)(I am in no way supported by, affiliated with, or requested from Cognex to write this review — it’s been a long time coming and I wanted to share my opinion.)
Best no-fuss scanner. Great features.

I normally don’t leave reviews, but this app is perfect. It does exactly what it’s supposed to. No ads in your face.Features I like:- continuous scanner mode- auto google search- targeting mode- scan history- duplicate delayMy current setup is “continuous scanning” + “duplicate delay = 5 seconds”. I can scan a bunch of tightly packed codes without locking onto the same one over and over again. Results appear in the UI overlay without notifying me each time. It’s great! It also seems to support a ton of types (like DataMatrix) as well as parsers. I haven’t tried these out yet, but I’ll try them out later when I’m feeling bored. The UPS parser looks interesting.I’m a software developer and I understand this is a demo for their SDK. If I ever need a scanner library, I’m definitely going to look into these guys.
Earned their place in my phone.

I use their products in a large scale manufacturing operation and I have come to realize that they are the best in what they truly specialize in which is vision and barcode reading applications.. on another side and completely opposite statement/note I cannot knock Keyence because I use their products as well but in my experience I will always go to cognex first for vision applications.. even a “simple”IPhone phone BC reader..
Good for 1 scan per reboot

IPhone 16 Pro Max, iOS 18.3 (current as of this writing). App scans fine and very fast the first time you open it. It won’t scan again until your phone is rebooted. The last image is frozen on screen out of focus with a dull red crosshair even if you force close and reopen the app a few minutes later. I’m not sure if this is useful information for the dev, but after that initial scan it stops accessing the camera (the little green indicator light turns off).If it worked I’d pay a few bucks for it (even if it was through an App Store “tip jar”), though not a subscription like most apps want. It doesn’t collect any data, which is a huge plus in my book.
