Rucking is walking with weight on your back. Most fitness trackers log it as a walk.
RuckWell counts the load — and it counts what you do to recover from it. Tell it what you're carrying and the weight becomes part of every number: calories, ruck work, ruck power, and your training load over time. No running required.
WEIGHT-ADJUSTED FROM THE FIRST STEP
Save the packs and vests you actually use, pick one, and go — carrying weight raises the energy cost of every mile, and RuckWell scores the effort accordingly instead of handing you the numbers from an unloaded walk.
GPS BUILT FOR LOADED MOVEMENT
Filtered distance and pace, mile and kilometer splits, auto-pause for lights and rest breaks, and barometric elevation gain — because the hills are the point.
GUIDANCE FOR YOUR DAY
Home opens on a Today card that reads your week so far and points you toward what will move you forward: a ruck, some mobility, or a rest day. One tap starts it with your pack and settings already loaded.
EVERY METRIC AT A GLANCE
The live workout screen puts distance, pace, heart rate, elevation, splits, and load metrics in one full-screen, scrolling view. No paging around to find your pace mid-step.
RUCKLOAD™ TRAINING LOAD
RuckLoad™ quantifies your recent training stress from intensity, volume, ruck weight, and elevation gain — across everything you do, not just rucking. Runs, walks, hikes, and lifting all count toward it.
RECOVERY IS PART OF THE TRAINING
Wake up to a daily Recovery Score built from overnight HRV, resting heart rate, respiratory rate, sleep, and your current RuckLoad. Log the other half of the work too — sauna sessions, mobility, and easy movement — so what you do to recover shows up in the picture instead of disappearing from it.
ON YOUR WRIST
A full Apple Watch app that records on its own, with or without your phone nearby, and syncs back when you're done. Live Activities on the Lock Screen, Smart Stack and Home Screen widgets, and metrics that stay readable on the Always-On display.
INDOOR AND TREADMILL
Set speed and incline in the app, up to 40% grade. Pace comes from belt speed, so treadmill rucks land in your history with real numbers.
TRAILS AND ROUTES
Import a GPX route and follow it with breadcrumb navigation on iPhone and Apple Watch, with audio turn cues and off-route alerts. Keep your head up instead of on your phone.
HEART RATE, YOUR WAY
Apple Watch or a Bluetooth chest strap, with time-in-zone for every workout. Use the heart rate zones you set up in Apple Health (iOS 27), a standard formula, or thresholds you set yourself, zone by zone.
SYNCS WHERE YOU ALREADY ARE
Two-way Apple Health, plus automatic upload to Strava with your training data intact.
HISTORY THAT ADDS UP
A calendar of everything you've carried, with splits, route maps, elevation profiles, nutrition and macros, and 7-, 30-, 90-day and all-time trends.
YOUR DATA, YOUR DEVICE
No account. No sign-up. Your workouts, routes, and health data live on your device and sync through Apple Health — not through us. RuckWell works fully offline, and nothing you record is ever sold. Strava upload happens only when you connect it.
Whether you're training for an event, building a habit, or just getting stronger under load, RuckWell tracks the work and the recovery it takes to keep doing it.
Requires iPhone on iOS 18 or later. Apple Watch app requires watchOS 10.4 or later.

For some reason. the “stop” button doesn’t want to respond on my phone and I have to stand there and press it lots of times until it finally reads it. I try to keep walking while doing that so I don’t tank my pace but it’s frustrating when you need a quick pause for an interruption or bathroom break. Also, the calories calculated when still moving are way higher than what it reports at the end once you save the workout. I’m not sure why. Other than that, I really love this app and it makes it fun to record my rucks. I screenshot the stats after and add it to Hevy for the walking workout since rucking isn’t an option on there.
Way too many issues with current version
Fencepost23
Been using this app daily for approximately 6 months. Was nearly perfect with the exception of a few small issues prior to the redesigned interface released a few weeks ago. I am starting / stopping workouts from my Apple Watch. About 50% of the time after I end my workout on my watch, when I go to the app on my iPhone, it’s missing data from the workout. When I open the app, I get a message that says “workout imported from Apple Fitness.” When that happens, no data comes in for elevation, steps, ruck weight, ruck power, and ruck work (all are 0). Also, during my workout, I keep an eye on elevation gain. Approximately 20% of the time, elevation gain stays at zero for the entire workout or it stops recording during an active session. And the latest issue that just started 2 days ago is with total calories burned. Before I end my session, I check distance, calories, etc. Today, I burned over 800 calories during a 5.5 mile ruck according to the watch app. When I ended the workout, it recorded 342 total calories. Same situation yesterday. Finally, please make the fonts bigger for current pace and average pace. My old eyes can’t see font that small on my watch. I have sent emails to their support team for most of these issues over the past few weeks and haven’t heard back from them.
Nice overall

Great app. My one complaint is the iPhone app defaults to no vo2 max protection and while you can change it, you have to do it every time because the app doesn’t save your preference. To add annoyance to this, the watch app shows vo2 max protection is on, but if you didn’t change it on the phone before starting a ruck, RuckWell is going to write a “hiking” workout to whatever apps you have connected to it. That means your vo2 max will go down. Very frustrating. But hey, it’s free so this is really just a nitpicky complaint. Thanks for the app!Edit: an update has removed the vo2 protection it seems. I no longer see any option to turn that feature on or off. Maybe it’s behind the paywall now🤷🏻♂️. Since the main reason I went with this app is because it had that feature, I’ve been trying, quite unsuccessfully, to see if that feature is still in play. So far, Reddit comments, and an email to the developer have gone unanswered.Edit 2: the feature lives!
Developer Response
Hello. The VO2 Max Protection option has been moved into the app’s Settings under Apple Health integrations.
Glitches

I’ve had issues with the app not working on my iWatch. I have to use the app from my phone and today I lost a 3 mile 15# weighted vest walk calculation because the app glitched trying to connect to my watch right after I started my walk. I didn’t check th app on my phone until I was 38 minutes into my walk and saw there was nothing recording and my watch app was cycling through a count down continuously. Seriously frustrating. I want to be able to start my ruck on my watch and track my progress but I have to pull my phone out every time and open the app instead and now, that’s glitching too. Lost all progress because I deleted the app to reinstall it to see if it starts working properly again..
On iOS 27, your heart rate zones can come straight from Apple Health. Your rucks are searchable in Spotlight, and Siri can start a saved setup.
Apple Health heart rate zones
If you've set up heart rate zones in Apple Health, RuckWell can use them directly, so both apps agree on what Zone 3 means. New installs start there; if you're already on a formula, we'll offer the switch once and show you exactly what changes before you take it. When Apple Health recalculates your zones, RuckWell follows, and your zone alert moves with them instead of firing at the old numbers. Requires iOS 27.
Zones recorded with the workout
RuckWell hands your zones to Apple Health before a workout starts, so your time in each zone is recorded under your zones rather than a default set. Every saved ruck also stores the zones it was recorded under, so older workouts keep reading correctly after you change them.
A clearer custom zone editor
Building your own zones now works zone by zone, each one bounded by its neighbours, instead of editing a list of raw thresholds. Formula descriptions moved below the picker, and the whole formula row is tappable.
Find any ruck from Spotlight
Your workouts are indexed in Spotlight. Search a title, a date, or an activity from the Home Screen and tap straight into the workout.
Start a saved setup with Siri
Your saved workout setups are available to Shortcuts and Siri, pack, activity and goal included, so a full ruck starts from one phrase or a shortcut.
