Learn American Sign Language from Deaf instructors: self-paced ASL courses, a 2,000+ sign dictionary and live practice with Plus. Choose the plan that fits you.
Learn American Sign Language (ASL) from Deaf instructors at a Deaf-owned school. Take self-paced video courses, look up signs in a 2,000+ sign video dictionary, and join live practice sessions with the Plus plan.
The ASL Shop teaches ASL as a real language, including grammar, structure and Deaf culture, so you understand how to use signs, not just memorize them.
WHAT YOU GET
• Self-paced video courses: lessons build on each other toward conversational signing, and your progress is saved
• ASL dictionary: 2,000+ signs with video, and the dictionary keeps growing
• Live practice sessions: sign in real time with Deaf instructors and other learners, included with Plus
• Fingerspelling practice: build your ABCs and fingerspelling speed
• Community: post videos, comment and practice with other learners and The ASL Shop crew
• Live classes: group ASL classes with Deaf instructors, available in the app as a one-time purchase (not included in subscriptions)
LEARN FROM DEAF INSTRUCTORS
Every course is designed and taught by Deaf ASL instructors. The ASL Shop is Deaf-owned. We use ASL every day, and we teach the culture alongside the language, because understanding Deaf culture is part of signing well.

As an aspiring polyglot, I can say with great enthusiasm that this app is IT. Other language apps don’t do what The ASL Shop does - TEACH. I’ve tried every app under the sun and they all have the same formula - throw random vocab at you, click a few buttons, and progress. No real explanation or guided learning. They advertise self-paced language learning but they don’t actually teach the way people typically learn language. The ASL Shop does. You’ll actually LEARN the language instead of just memorize like the rest of the apps out there. Everyone who has successfully learned another language knows you need a proper foundation and UNDERSTANDING of the language, not just memorizing as much as you can and clumsily stringing it all together. This means someone has to actually explain the rules and structure of said language, and The ASL Shop team does an amazing job of it. Fun, accessible, and realistic, you’ll be signing along before you know it. The community feature keeps you in contact with others using the app and I think it’s amazing that you can practice and get feedback that way! Feels like a friendly and supportive social media and really boosts your learning. Love it !
Lifetime subscription worthwhile!

All the teachers are Deaf and the signing is clear and easy to follow. Plus having had the app for a bit, updates are made frequently so I’m excited! I love that they have a lifetime subscription. I got a lifetime subscription for the Calm app back before it was big and I am so glad I did because now its collection is extensive and it is soooooo expensive!! I’m thinking of it as investment, it’s worthwhile to buy in while it is affordable🤣The voice control labeling is solid too (better than Duolingo) which is rare for apps, especially smaller ones.

As Program Director of Deaf Studies at BU Wheelock and the founding architect of Harvard's ASL program, I do not endorse language apps lightly. The ASL Shop earns it. It is Deaf owned and every instructor is Deaf, which matters: this is a language that must be taught by those who live it. The app pairs structured video lessons with a growing ASL dictionary, live group sessions, and something most apps miss entirely, Deaf culture taught as inseparable from the language. For Deaf people who never had the chance to learn ASL, this is a way back to your own language. It is never too late to claim it. I am very proud of this team. Big congratulations.
Love this app!

I’ve really been enjoying learning ASL with this app. The lessons are fun, easy to follow, and the teachers are Deaf. The dictionary is really useful and I like the options they give you for the lessons (self-paced, live, practice groups, etc.) There’s even a community feature that reminds me of tik tok. You can just scroll through or you can post and comment on other people, which is really awesome when you’re just learning and don’t really have people to practice with. Overall love this app and am excited to learn!
Thanks for learning ASL with us! This update improves performance and stability and polishes the design so lessons, the dictionary and the community feel smoother. Questions or ideas? Email app@theaslshop.com
