ZooMood - Animal Welfare Monitoring Made Simple ZooMood is a practical tool designed for zoo professionals to assess and track the emotional wellbeing of animals in their care. Why ZooMood? Traditional methods for measuring animal welfare—like detailed behavioural coding or cognitive bias testing—are resource-intensive and impractical for everyday zoo operations. ZooMood bridges this gap by translating keeper expertise into structured affective profiles using a simple, intuitive rating system. How It Works Using adjectives derived from Qualitative Behavioral Assessment (QBA), keepers rate the emotional states of animals they observe daily. No complex statistics or specialized training required—just your observational expertise and familiarity with the animals. Key Features • Simple adjective-based rating system • Works across all taxa: invertebrates, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals • Tracks balance between positive and negative emotional indicators • Designed for routine daily use by busy zoo professionals • Provides early-warning welfare indicators • Informs targeted follow-up assessments when needed Who Is It For? ZooMood is built for zookeepers, animal care staff, and welfare officers who want a practical, science-based tool to support animal-centered decision-making in everyday management. Support Better Animal Welfare By making affective monitoring accessible and routine, ZooMood helps zoos catch welfare concerns early and ensure animals are thriving—not just surviving.
