Sunny 16 - Film Meter
Photo & Video
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Meter light with your camera, work the Sunny 16 rule by hand, and nail zone focus. Built for film shooters. Now with a simpler live meter and Hold.
Sunny 16 is a film photographer's exposure companion: a camera-based light meter, a Sunny 16 rule calculator, and a zone focus tool, all in one app that works without a signal.
LIGHT METER
• Meters the scene through your iPhone camera and shows the EV live
• Evaluative and spot metering
• Hold freezes a reading while you set your camera
• Choose which lens to meter with and see its angle of view
• Results snap to real shutter and aperture dial positions and tell you how far off the ideal exposure you are
• Auto, aperture priority, and shutter priority modes
• Match the app to your camera's shutter dial: modern full stops or the classic older series
SUNNY 16 CALCULATOR
• Pick your lighting condition, ISO, aperture, and shutter speed
• Viewfinder-style meter shows exposure deviation instantly
• 20 lighting conditions from bright snow to moonlight
• Auto fills in the missing setting for a correct exposure
ZONE FOCUS
• See the sharp zone for your focal length, aperture, and focus distance
• Point the camera at the ground to estimate subject distance in the live view
• One tap to set focus at the hyperfocal distance
• Focal lengths from 21mm to 50mm, in feet or metres
APPLE WATCH
• Sunny 16 calculator on your wrist for quick checks in the field
Works completely offline. No account, no tracking.
Full Access, a one-time purchase, unlocks indoor and low-light conditions, spot metering, and aperture and shutter priority modes in the Light Meter. Everything else is free.
Simpler live meter
• One control row under the viewfinder: metering angle, Hold, and metering mode
• Hold is now a button, so freezing a reading is easier to hit and easier to see
• The aperture iris display is gone; the live camera view is the meter
Send Feedback
• Settings now has a Send Feedback button that opens an email to support
• Device details are added to the message so bug reports need less back-and-forth
