PiePlot: Split Bills & Rent
Receipts, tax & who owes what
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad
Every receipt, sorted: who owes who with friends, and what's deductible for your business.
Snap a photo of a receipt and PiePlot's AI reads the items, prices, tax and tip for you. Assign items to people and see who owes whom, as a pie, not a spreadsheet.
SCAN, DON'T TYPE
• AI reads grocery, restaurant and general receipts
• Items, prices, tax and tip filled in for you to check
• Or add anything by hand in a few taps
SPLIT IT ANY WAY
• Equally, by percentage, by exact amounts, or by shares
• Assign individual items to individual people
• Tax and tip shared out in proportion
• Add people who don't have the app; they can claim their spot later
FOR THE PEOPLE YOU ACTUALLY SPLIT WITH
• Roommates: rent, utilities and the weekly shop
• Couples: a fairness view comparing your share to an income-fair split
• Trips and groups: invite by QR code or link
SETTLE UP CLEANLY
• Balances update as expenses are added
• Debts simplified so everyone settles in fewer payments
• Record settlements to keep balances current
• Multi-currency, with CSV and PDF export
BUSINESS MODE, FOR ONE-PERSON COMPANIES
For incorporated owners and sole traders in Canada, the US, the UK and Australia. Every receipt becomes a record your accountant can use.
• Snap it once: sorted into a business category with its tax treatment, which you can change
• Meals capped where the rules call for it
• Mark what you paid personally, so the company knows what it owes you back
• See expenses by the card or account that paid
• Import bank and card statements and match them to your receipts
• Log mileage and income alongside your expenses
• Receipt images kept with each expense, organized by tax year
• At year end, send your accountant a spreadsheet, QuickBooks or Xero file, or a private link to view your year
• Your whole year on the web too, at app.pieplot.com
• Run more than one company, and share a receipt across them
PiePlot helps you keep records. It is not tax advice; check with your accountant.
PRICING
• Splitting bills is free, and new accounts can try AI receipt scanning for free
• Pro raises your scan limit and adds AI Quick Entry: type "dinner $60, split with Sam" and AI fills in the rest
• Business raises it further and adds the accountant export and the web app
• Current limits, prices and trial details are shown in the app
PRIVACY
• AI features send your receipt to Google's Gemini AI, and we ask before the first time

more Plans, made clearer.
• Every plan in one place. Plans shows Free, Pro and Business side by side, with the move that fits yours: upgrade, switch from Business to Pro, or go back to Free by cancelling.
• If plans can't load from the App Store, Plans now says so and suggests checking you're signed in, instead of greying options out.
• Friendlier error messages.
• Fixes throughout.
1.6.6 23h ago
- Your group's balance is back in one clear card: what you owe or are owed, who it's with, and Settle up right there.
- Couples: see what you've spent together so far, and what each of you paid, on your home screen.
- Bigger, easier-to-read text throughout: expenses, groups, people and amounts are larger, and small grey text is darker.
- When your partner adds something just for themselves, PiePlot now says so kindly: "nothing for you to pay".
- New accounts get 15 free AI receipt scans to try PiePlot. Adding expenses by hand stays free.
- iPad and wide screens show two pages side by side.
- Fixes: the app no longer gets stuck on the splash screen after a fresh install, and amounts no longer break across lines.
1.6.5 1d ago
• Cards and accounts: see which card or account paid for an expense. A receipt's last four digits are picked up when shown, and you can name each card.
• Bank statements: each line can be marked as an expense, income, a transfer, money between you and your company, or personal, and a scanned receipt can be joined to its statement line.
• Your password saves correctly to your password manager
• Fixes and improvements.
1.6.3 4d ago
What's new in 1.6.2
• Two-step sign-in: add a code from an authenticator app when you sign in, with recovery codes in case you lose your phone. Turn it on in Settings → Security. Your phone remembers the code for 30 days.
• Change your password from Settings → Security.
• New passwords need at least 12 characters. A short phrase is easiest to remember.
• Receipts with discounts now sync properly, and one problem item no longer holds up the rest of your changes.
• Privacy improvements: when you switch accounts, the previous account's notifications stop reaching this phone; receipt photos are sent without location data; and exports are kept out of device backups.
1.6.2 6d ago
What's new in 1.6.1
• Corporate resolutions across Canada: annual and dividend resolutions for every province and territory, with French for Quebec.
• Your corporate answers now sync with your company across your devices.
• Accountant's link: corporate records and the mileage log are now included.
• Couple: tap "Shared group" in You to pick which group your couple ledger counts. "Change partner" now has its own button.
• Scanning: if a scanned date isn't today, it's highlighted on the review screen so you can check it and tap to change it.
• Small fixes and improvements.

What's new in 1.6.0
Corporate resolutions
• Create signable annual and dividend resolutions for a one-person corporation, in every Canadian province and territory. Quebec documents can be made in French or English.
• Choose from three classic typefaces. Creating the PDF needs the Business plan.
• Your answers sync with your company, so they're ready on your iPad too.
• Templates are a starting point and may not reflect the latest law. Check with your accountant or lawyer.
Who paid
• Mark a business expense as paid by the company, by you personally, or in cash, so it's clear what the company owes you back.
Couples
• Settings now has a Couple section: see your partner and shared group, or change partner.
• Choosing a partner offers the groups you already share instead of creating an empty one.
Plus fixes and improvements.
1.6.0 Oct 15
Business mode comes to Australia and the UK, and more control over your tax rules:
• Business mode now supports Australia and the United Kingdom (new): GST and VAT claims, ABN and UK VAT numbers, and mileage at the ATO and HMRC rates for each tax year.
• Every business expense can carry a business purpose, so your accountant knows why it was spent.
• Tax rules, your way: review and correct any rule PiePlot applies (deductible share, tax credits, business use, thresholds and sales-tax rates) and choose the date a change applies from. Search and a "Changed" filter show what you've edited, and Reset puts PiePlot's rules back.
• Paid by someone else: when someone outside the split covered part of a receipt, enter that amount under Split. Only the rest is shared, and the whole receipt is kept.
• On Mac and iPad, resizing the window no longer freezes the app, and the Year screen keeps its layout in a narrow window.
• Signing in on a new device no longer offers Business setup again when you already have a company.
• Fixes throughout.
PiePlot helps you keep records. It is not tax advice.
1.5.26 Oct 14
Smoother scanning and business fixes:
• A dropped connection while scanning now retries by itself, and counts as one scan.
• Choosing a group after a scan no longer shows a blank screen.
• Splitting a scan shares tax, tip and discounts in proportion to each person's items.
• Sign in with Apple and Google now use the system sign-in sheet.
• Business: changes you make to tax rules now apply everywhere, including your export.
• Partner invites read more simply.
1.5.25 Oct 12
• Import a bank or card statement – PDF, photo, CSV or OFX. PiePlot checks every line against your receipts, spots money coming in and transfers, and lets you add the rest in one go with Select all.
• New Tax rules screen: see the rates PiePlot uses for your country, adjust them, or reset to the defaults.
• Choose kilometres or miles for mileage.
• Nova Scotia's 14% HST.
• Reset your password from inside the app.
• A cleaner, calmer Business mode, and fixes.
1.5.23 Oct 10
Plans, exports, expense times, and a big Business overhaul:
• New Plans screen: Free, Pro and Business side by side, with your store's prices. Business is a yearly plan.
• Export for your accountant as a full spreadsheet, or in the shape QuickBooks or Xero imports.
• Every expense shows when it happened ("Oct 3 · 1:15 PM"), and same-day expenses are listed in order. Scans pick up the time printed on the receipt, and Quick Entry understands "lunch at 1pm".
• Business: receipts that don't look like business expenses are no longer claimed automatically. Set business-use % for phone, internet, home office and vehicle, and record GST/HST and the supplier on typed expenses.
• Business: income has a date, a before-tax amount and the tax collected, and you can edit it. Home and Year show the same GST/HST figures for your reporting period.
• Business: foreign-currency receipts are converted at the rate on their own date. Mileage counts this fiscal year, and trips can be edited.
• If PiePlot is busy during a batch import, the import pauses so you can retry, instead of marking your receipts unreadable.
• Either person in a settle-up can edit or delete it, and nudges tell you whether they reached your partner.
• Splits always add up to the total, and amounts typed with a comma work.
• Couples: a "Just me" expense stays visible to both of you but no longer counts toward who paid or the fairness meter. Turn on "Keep private" to file it in your Personal space instead.
• New to PiePlot? A short guide helps you log your first expense, or your first receipt in Business.
• The Free plan includes up to 50 new expenses a day.
• A redesigned You screen, with your plan at the top.
1.5.21 Oct 9
Split a receipt item by item. Scan it, see every line, and tick who had what — leave the drinks to whoever had them. Anything nobody ticks goes to whoever paid, and tax and tip are shared in proportion.
Your receipt stays with the expense. Open it any time to see every item and who had it, and change the split later if you need to.
Scan from anywhere: a camera button now sits in Add Expense and on any expense that doesn't havpense you typed in can get its receipt afterwards.
Tap anyone in a group to see what you owe each other. For people who don't use the app, add their ete.
Also fixed: expenses in Recent Activity sometimes needed a few taps to open, and screens read better
1.5.18 Oct 6
A new + button on Home lets you add an expense in any mode. It opens on the right group — your couple, your company, or the group you used last — and you can change it.
Scanning a receipt now offers "Save to" the group that fits your mode, and splits include people who don't use the app.
New groups now walk you through adding people and your first expense.
Fixed a blank screen after saving a scanned receipt, and dates that could show the wrong day on older data.
1.5.12 Oct 3
Navigation is the system's own now, so PiePlot lays out properly on iPad — a sidebar and a readable column, instead of a phone screen stretched wide.
Bug fixes
1.5.9 Sep 18
PiePlot can now nudge you if a week goes by without a receipt — worded for the way you use it, scheduled on your phone, and switched off in one tap in Settings.
1.5.8 Aug 31
Email receipts, handled — and invoices that chase themselves.
• Got a receipt by email? Share the image or PDF from Mail and choose "Copy to PiePlot". It lands in the same review screen as a photographed receipt, and PDFs are read as they are — nothing needs printing or screenshotting.
• New "Remind for me" on a sent invoice: PiePlot emails your client a polite reminder at 1, 7 and 14 days past due, then stops. Replies come straight to you. It's off by default and set per invoice.
• Business Home now shows only your company's activity — personal and group expenses no longer appear in the business feed.
• Small fixes and stability improvements throughout.
1.5.7 Aug 28
Your business now has both sides of the books.
• Record money in — four quick questions, no jargon
• Invoices: create one, mark it paid, and the income (and the GST/HST you collected) files itself
• See what you kept — money in, money out, and profit leading your Year
• Tax, set aside as you go: a running GST/HST set-aside plus an income-tax dial, so April doesn't surprise you
• Approaching the $30,000 GST/HST registration threshold? You'll know before your accountant has to tell you
• Unpaid invoices show how long they've been waiting — send a friendly reminder in one tap
• Your accountant's export and secure link now include income, clearly separated from expenses
• Snap the same receipt twice and PiePlot asks before saving a duplicate
Plus better large-text layouts and small fixes throughout.
1.5.5 Aug 27
Mileage, your own tax rates, and two ways to catch up on a year.
• Log a trip and PiePlot applies the published rate for your year and region,
tiered where the rules are tiered. If we don't have a rate for that year, it
says so instead of guessing.
• A new Tax rules screen shows exactly which percentages are being applied to
your expenses, where each one came from, and lets you change any of them if
your accountant tells you otherwise. Anything you've changed is listed
together, so you can see your own edits at a glance.
• Import a bank statement. Export a CSV from your online banking and PiePlot
reads it on your phone — the file is never uploaded to us or to any AI
service. It shows you what it made of the file before anything is added, ticks
only the transactions you don't already have, and leaves payments and refunds
out.
• Give your accountant access. Send a link to their email address; opening it
needs a code we email to that same address, so the link on its own isn't
enough. You choose whether they can just read your books or also correct a
category, you set when it expires, and you can withdraw it at any moment.
Fixes:
• An edit could be quietly lost if it landed while the app was syncing. It no
longer can.
• In Business mode, an expense we couldn't recognise was being counted as fully
deductible. It's now left out of the total and listed for you to categorise,
so the figure is never higher than what you've actually reviewed.
• Better recognition of restaurants and cafés, which are only half deductible.
1.5.2 Aug 26
New: Business mode — a third way to use PiePlot, alongside Couple and Group.
Snap a receipt, forget it, hand your accountant the whole year in April.
• Scan receipts straight into your company's books, with tax captured per line
rather than estimated
• Year view: every month of your fiscal year at a glance, and anything still
missing detail
• One-tap accountant export — a CSV ledger plus the receipt images backing it up
• Meal and entertainment rules applied for you (Canada and US)
Also in this release:
• Quick Entry now works — it had been failing silently for Pro subscribers
• Receipts file on the date you bought them, wherever you are in the world
• Exports are ordered by date and match the dates shown on screen
1.5.0 Aug 20
Splitting across currencies — like a trip abroad — now just works:
• Your combined Reports, home balance, and Overall Balances roll up into one preferred currency, even when your groups use different ones.
• Set your preferred currency in the "You" tab.
• Cleaner money formatting, and a clearer Groups list that shows who owes what and each group's size at a glance.
Plus polish and bug fixes.
1.4.10 Jul 19
• Couple mode: pick your partner in seconds — choose someone you already split with, or invite someone new.
• Big performance & reliability improvements — the app is faster and easier on your battery.
• New privacy controls: analytics consent in Settings, plus clearer AI receipt-scanning disclosure.
• Bug fixes and stability improvements.
1.4.9 Jul 18
Your duo, sorted.
• Pick your partner. Couple mode now asks who your partner actually is — choose someone you already split with, or invite someone new by name and email. One tap and your shared scoreboard is live.
• Change your partner anytime from the ⋯ menu on the Duo screen. Nothing is deleted — your shared history with them stays right where it is.
• No more guessing. PiePlot used to quietly assume any two-person group was you and your partner. Now you choose.
Plus a round of fixes to keep things fair and square.
1.4.8 Jul 17
• New Privacy setting — turn anonymous usage analytics on or off anytime in Settings. It's off by default in the EU and UK.
• Clearer AI scanning — before a receipt is sent for AI scanning, we now spell out exactly what's shared and where it goes. Prefer to keep receipts on your device? Use Local mode.
• Crash reporting stays on to keep PiePlot reliable.
• Bug fixes and performance improvements.
1.4.7 Jul 14
• Faster shared expenses — in Couple mode, adding an expense now splits with your partner by default, with a quick "Just me" toggle for personal spending.
• New: Fairness Insights (Pro) — see how your share of the bills compares to your income-fair split each month.
• A clearer, faster Add Expense flow.
• Performance improvements and bug fixes.
1.4.5 Jul 12
Stability improvements and under-the-hood polish.
1.4.4 Jul 7
Plans, made clearer.
