FishHogs
Nautical Charts for Anglers
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
FishHogs is a marine chartplotter for anglers fishing US coastal waters and the Great Lakes. View official NOAA nautical charts, track your GPS position and heading, check the tide, and log every fish you catch — all from one simple app. NOAA charts and GPS are free and work without an account.
NOAA NAUTICAL CHARTS
Access official NOAA electronic navigational charts (ENC) rendered as high-quality vector tiles. See channel markers, depth contours, hazards, and aids to navigation. Charts load fast and render cleanly at any zoom level.
GPS POSITION & HEADING
See your real-time position and heading on the chart. FishHogs uses your device GPS — no external hardware required. Works anywhere you have satellite signal, even without cell service.
TIDES, CURRENTS & WEATHER
Check the tide curve for your local station with high and low times, flood and ebb states, and the day's fishing windows. Currents and marine weather sit alongside the tide, with water levels for the Great Lakes where tides do not apply.
CATCH LOG
Log a fish with species, weight, length, and the spot you caught it — one tap adds your current location. Search and sort your history by species, size, or date, and keep a whole season in one place.
MARKERS
Drop markers on fishing spots, structure, hazards, or any point of interest. Add notes, edit names and details, and sync them across your devices when you sign in.
GROUPS & SHARING
Create a group for your crew and share markers, catches, and live position on the water. Invite by link or QR code. You choose which group sees your position, and you can turn it off at any time. Creating a group requires Premium; joining a group and sharing within it are free.
GROUP CHAT
Message your group from the boat. Messages queue while you are out of range and send when signal returns, so a dead zone does not cost you the conversation.
TACKLE BOX
On-the-water references: a fish ID guide for Southeast Alaska and the Gulf Coast with photos and scientific names, marine VHF radio channels, fishing regulations, and a halibut weight calculator.
FISHHOGS PREMIUM
Premium unlocks the layers that show you structure — the bathymetry contour overlay, FishHogs Depth mode with graduated depth shading, and the FishHogs chart style — and removes banner ads. NOAA charts, GPS, markers, the catch log, tides and conditions, joining a crew group, and the Tackle Box remain free.
ACCOUNTS
Sign in with Google or Apple to sync markers and catches across your devices, join groups, and manage a subscription. NOAA charts and GPS work without an account.
Built by anglers who got tired of paying for chart subscriptions. FishHogs uses free NOAA data, so official nautical charts stay free.
SUBSCRIPTION
FishHogs Premium is an auto-renewing subscription offered monthly or annually. Payment is charged to your account at confirmation of purchase. It renews automatically at the same price each period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your account settings.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
FishHogs is intended as a fishing and recreational reference tool. Chart data is sourced from NOAA and is provided for general reference only. This app is not a substitute for official NOAA nautical charts, Coast Guard Light Lists, or Notice to Mariners publications, and must not be used as the sole means of navigation.
more This app has been very helpful and an upgrade to what I used to use. The depth bands make it easy to find fishable depths. The halibut length to weight chart is nice. The navigation system is easy to use. I like how groups can message each other and see locations for safety. Best fishing app I’ve used.

Love this map. It shows markers of where lighthouses, beacons, and etc are located and where you are. Great app very pleased.

New in 0.9.1:
• Track recording: tap REC to record your trip while FishHogs is open, see your tracks on the map, and use Track Back to retrace your route.
• Import and export tracks as GPX files.
• Group chat: tap a shared marker or catch to see it on the map.
• The map no longer shows "no coverage" warnings over land.
• Fixes for large text sizes, Marine Radio MAYDAY, and the GPS warning when location is turned off.
0.9.1 Oct 19
• Group invites: every new group now starts with an invite, and you can show it as a full-screen QR code for crew to scan.
• Live location sharing: a brief notice confirms sharing has started, then gets out of the way of your chart controls. Stop has an Undo. Sharing resumes only on the phone you turned it on from, and positions stay live even when a phone's clock is off.
• Weak connection notice: an amber banner tells you when updates may be delayed on a marginal signal.
• Marine Radio position readout: low-accuracy and out-of-date GPS fixes are now clearly flagged, so you know when to say "approximately" and check your chart.
• Map callouts: buttons respond reliably and stay reachable on smaller screens and at large text sizes.
• Larger text: Tackle Box, Markers, Catches and sign-in now work at the largest text size.
• Groups: clearer messages when something goes wrong, member counts that stay current, and faster leaving.
• Under the hood: upgraded to React Native 0.87 for better stability and performance.
0.9.0 Oct 6
Sharper depth and more honest offline behavior.
- Depth contour lines every 10 ft, down to 160 ft — the second-generation bathymetry is now the standard chart and the standard download.
- Oregon and Washington marine coverage is back.
- Saves that haven't reached the server say so: "still sending" or "didn't send", and it survives a restart.
- Group sharing, chat and crew actions report what actually happened on a weak signal: sent, queued, or failed.
- The connection indicator no longer flickers on a marginal link.
- Live position sharing recovers after a dead link, and crew-member ages all come from one clock.
- Saving a marker without changes no longer erases its tide reading, and edits to shared markers and catches land in order.
- Map callouts and lists stay readable at large text sizes.
NOAA charts and GPS remain free and work without an account.

FishHogs 0.8.8 — Built for Weak Signal
Offline charts
- Updating an offline area checks everything it needs before touching your download. If the update can't finish, your existing charts stay put and keep working.
- If an update can't start, the message tells you whether it's your connection or your subscription.
- Offline Downloads tells you when Seafloor Relief is available for an area you downloaded earlier.
- Drawing a download area stops at the maximum size instead of showing an error. The corner handles, on both the download box and the measure tool, are easier to grab. The maximum area per download is smaller than before.
Markers and sync
- Markers created without signal are kept even if the app is closed, and they sync automatically when you reconnect.
- The app shows when you're offline.
Crew
- Chat shows when a message is still waiting to send, and marks saved messages while you're offline.
- Messages written offline keep the time you wrote them.
- A stopped boat's position keeps updating, and it greys out when its GPS stops reporting.
- When a boat reconnects, its position jumps straight to where it is now.
- Position sharing pauses while the app is in the background.
- Stopping position sharing while offline takes effect once you reconnect, even if the app was closed.
- Editing a marker or catch you've shared updates your crew's copy without announcing it again, and anything you've unshared stays unshared.
- Creating a group without a connection fails right away with a clear message instead of hanging. Invite and code-redemption errors say what went wrong.
Plus performance improvements and bug fixes.
0.8.8 Sep 16
Seafloor Relief
3D-style seabed shading that reveals the shape of the
bottom — drop-offs, humps, channel edges — for premium
subscribers, in select charted areas. Download a region
and it works offline, like the rest of your charts.
Update reminders
A calm heads-up when a newer build is available, so you
find out before anything stops working rather than after.
Dismissible, and it never covers the chart.
Group sharing — export
The Group tab now exports the markers and catches your
group shares, not just your own. Filenames and file
contents agree on the date.
Fixes
• The safety depth contour now highlights correctly on
charted areas.
• Speed, course and distance now blank out when the GPS
fix goes stale, instead of holding a stale reading that
looks live.
• The measurement readout no longer sits under the centre
crosshair.
• Depth readout no longer shows a placeholder value where
no reading exists.
0.8.7 Sep 8
ON THE CHART
Tap a marker callout to Inspect it — a read-only detail view, so there's no Delete sitting where you meant to tap. Shared markers and validation pins open the same way, and shared detail now shows the icon and colour the sender chose.
Heading-up seats your boat low on the screen, putting more of the water ahead in view. The crosshair now steps aside while you're under way — pan the chart to bring it back.
Course arrows account for map bearing, so they agree with the predictor no matter which way the chart is turned. You can stop navigation straight from the instruments cluster, and a deleted marker no longer leaves you navigating to nothing. Navigation lines are straight-line only, and the app now says so once, up front.
The offline download box is sized from the map you're actually looking at, rather than a fixed span — zoom in for a smaller download, out for a wider one.
CATCHES
Log the depth along with your catch. It pre-fills from the charted depth under the pin and stays editable, so it's right when the chart isn't.
Every catch now shows where it sat against the nearest tide change, and the tide reads in plain language — rising and falling for height, incoming and outgoing for current. Share a catch and the tide and depth travel with it.
The app no longer pre-fills a catch position from a GPS fix too weak to trust, and an edited marker coordinate now actually saves.
GROUPS
A shared position shows speed and course, not just a dot. Your groups appear straight away from cache while they refresh, and a share that hits a slow connection queues instead of failing.
REFERENCE
Pinch-zoom, pan and reset-to-fit on species photos for a closer look. Marine VHF and GMRS guidance are now a single two-tab reference, offline as always.
ALSO
Bottom tab labels reflow instead of clipping at large text sizes, and subscribers no longer start the ads engine at all.
0.8.6 Aug 27
Alaska Field Feedback
This release comes straight from on-the-water
testing in Southeast Alaska.
• Share a marker or catch from any list — your
group hears about it in chat
• Log a halibut's length and get an estimated
weight
• Current curves now draw at far more stations,
including subordinate ones
• Dungeness and Tanner crab added to the Fish ID
guide, with male/female identification
• Map callouts stay responsive with many pins on
screen
• Fixes for editing a catch's location and for
group copies going stale
Thanks to everyone we've met in Petersburg for
helping test the app.
0.8.5 Aug 21
CONDITIONS — ONE TIMELINE FOR TIDE AND CURRENT
Tide and current now share a single scrubbable timeline. Drag to any time and read both against the same axis instead of comparing two charts, and fishing windows are now derived from real current speed rather than inferred from the tide's slope.
GROUP CHAT
Open your group's chat in one tap from the chart. Messages you send without signal now clearly read as queued rather than stuck sending, and the thread keeps itself up to date more reliably when you come back into coverage.
ON THE WATER
The screen stays awake while you're on the chart, so it won't sleep on you mid-run, and your own boat now shows a heading arrow when under way.
ALSO IN THIS RELEASE
• Depth shading and contours no longer disappear when you zoom in
• Marker and catch shares queue offline instead of hanging
• "+" on Markers and Catches adds at your current location
• Group catches open a detail view with time and catch information
• Saved documents tell you when a file is missing instead of loading forever
0.8.4 Aug 18
Conditions follow the station, not your phone
Tide planner, weather strip and currents all read in the station's own time
zone now, labelled whenever that differs from yours. Before this they
disagreed with each other, which is worse than being wrong consistently —
there was no way to know which one to trust. Day grouping and the month
title follow the station's day too, so a tide just after local midnight
files under the right date.
Un-sharing works offline
Retracting a marker or catch you had shared used to wait silently for a
server that wasn't there. The row disappeared from your phone, so it looked
done — while your crew could still see it. It now queues properly and tells
you: "Will remove when you're back online." When you reconnect, it actually
leaves the group.
Light mode reaches the last corners
The group screens, the sign-in sheet, and the create-and-edit form for
markers and catches ignored your Appearance setting and stayed dark. They
follow it now. The catch form matters most: it is the screen you use
outdoors, in the sun, where light mode is not a preference.
Tide times near Eastport read Eastern
Two Maine stations close to the Canadian border — Eastport and
Passamaquoddy Bay — had been assigned Atlantic Time, so their predictions
ran an hour late. Fixed, along with nine current stations in the same
waters.
Also in this release
The un-share button on group feeds, and the offline mark on the sync
indicator, were rendering as empty boxes. Both show properly now — which is
very likely why un-sharing seemed impossible to find.
Your boat marker is drawn natively, so the chart does considerably less work
on every GPS fix.
0.8.3 Aug 14
Save shared spots to your own markers
When someone in your group shares a marker, you can now save it into My
Markers as your own copy. It stays with you even if you leave the group, and
it remembers who shared it and where. If you already had a marker on that
spot, the two are linked rather than duplicated — so you see one pin, not two
stacked on top of each other.
20 new rockfish photographs in the Fish ID guide
The Southeast Alaska guide gains 20 photographs, used with the kind permission
of the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. Several species that had no
photograph at all now have one, and yelloweye rockfish now shows a juvenile
alongside the adult — they look very different, and telling them apart
matters. As always, the guide and its photos download with your offline
regions and work with no signal.
Support is easier to find
Support and Send Feedback now sit at the top of Settings, rather than partway
down.
0.8.2 Aug 13
Finishing the crosshair, and recording the tide with your catches.
CROSSHAIR
One control at the reticle does both jobs now: with nothing under it, add a
marker or log a catch right where you're aiming. With one of your own marks
under it, inspect it without hunting for the pin. Your markers and catches are
named on every chart mode — including NOAA, and on free accounts.
The reticle also grabs what you're actually pointing at, at any zoom. Below the
usable depth zoom it simply steps aside instead of asking you to zoom in.
TIDE WITH YOUR CATCHES
Every catch you log now records the tide — height, datum, stage, and the station
it came from — sampled at the moment of the catch rather than the moment you
look at it. You see it on the form before you save and on the catch card
afterwards, from the same source.
Where there's no station in range, it says so. A blank reading is never shown as
a real one.
CONDITIONS IN LANDSCAPE
Tides, currents and weather read beside the chart instead of covering it.
CLEANER CHARTS
Symbols thin by category at wide zoom so hazards and aids stay readable, and the
app tells you when it's thinning rather than quietly dropping them.
ALSO
Deleting a group now really deletes it — roster, shared markers, catches and
chat. Plus contrast fixes in light mode and steadier chart loading.
0.8.1 Aug 11
Know what's under you.
- Center crosshair: read the depth at any spot on the chart, not just where you are. The reticle is free; the depth readout is Premium.
- Honest coverage: where we have no bathymetry for that spot, we say so instead of guessing.
- Share your position with more than one group at once - crew and family, without merging them.
- Fish ID Guide photos now download with your offline regions, so the guide works with no signal.
- Faster chart loading.
- Settings leads with the signed-in account, and Sign Out and Delete name the account they'll affect.
- Map stability and reliability fixes.
NOAA charts and GPS remain free and work without an account.
0.8.0 Aug 10
