Practice Wheel
Music Practice Made Fun
Free · Designed for iPad
Practice Wheel takes the guesswork out of practice. Build your repertoire, spin the wheel to pick what to play, and watch your progress add up.
SPIN THE WHEEL
Add your songs, spin, and play. Smart Spin leans toward the songs you've practiced least, so nothing gets forgotten. Spin from all your songs or from a set, like a recital program or your warm-ups.
TAKE THE STAGE
One tap starts a focused practice session: a timer toward your daily goal, a metronome with tap tempo, a tempo ladder that walks you up to full speed, and a built-in tuner.
CHORD CHARTS
Keep a chord chart with any song. Transpose it to a new key and let it autoscroll at your tempo while you play. On iPad it sits beside the timer.
YOUR JOURNEY
Every session is logged with how it felt and your notes. See your streak, a 16-week heatmap, milestones, and semester and year recaps.
FRIENDS
Share a friend code, cheer each other on, and collect stickers on your weekly cork board.
FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS
Teachers create classes, share a join code, see each student's week at a glance, and send assignments and encouragement. Class spin picks who plays next and what they play, right in the lesson. Students join with a code and get their assignments in the app.
MAKE IT YOURS
Let each song's album art color the app, or choose from over a dozen themes, or build your own.

I’m practicing more than ever wow!
• Take the Living Themes tour: see all eight living themes come alive, watch Solar run from sunrise to sunset, and spin the wheel to see what each one throws off.
• Picking a moving theme now shows it right away.
• New theme builder: remix any built-in theme, choose glass or solid cards, and borrow any backdrop.
2.0.5 Oct 10
• Living themes: Aurora, Solar, Seaglass, Chrome, Forest, Pastel Clouds, Valentine and Bugs are now drawn live, always moving, and they react when you spin. Solar's sun even follows the real time of day.
• Every theme throws off something of its own as the wheel turns: hearts, bubbles, stardust, fireflies, sparks of sunlight and more.
• A new theme button in the top-left corner switches themes in one tap from any tab.
• Smoother spinning, and assorted fixes.
2.0.4 Oct 9
Open practice, and a tidier Spin tab:
• Open practice: time scales, warm-ups, or anything with no song attached. Same stage, same log, same streak.
• Your profile photo is the cover for open practice sessions.
• Under the wheel: the song card, Spin / Take the stage, and one row of BPM, Tuner and Open practice. YouTube and Tabs moved into the song card's long-press menu.
• Spin and Take the stage step aside while the wheel is empty.
2.0.3 Oct 7
A new icon, and fixes:
• New app icon: the wheel's tiles, spun into a P.
• Song edits made on another device now show up here.
• Practice sessions no longer save twice after you reopen the app.
• Deleting your account now removes everything, including your photo.
• The Stage runs lighter while the timer is going.
2.0.2 Sep 26
Fixes and polish:
• The Stage always has YouTube and Tabs buttons, however you got there.
• The tuner on the Stage opens the full tuner.
• Adding a chart? A new button finds the song on Ultimate Guitar so you can copy the chords in.
• Text stays readable when the app takes its colors from the album art.
• Searching Repertoire hides your Sets so only matching songs show.
• Class spin: song covers no longer overlap on a full wheel.
2.0.1 Sep 18
Practice Wheel 2.0 is a ground-up rebuild. Your library, sessions, sets, teachers and class codes all come with you.
NEW IN 2.0
• Take the stage: a focused practice screen with a timer, metronome with tap tempo, a tempo ladder that steps you up to full speed, and a built-in tuner.
• Chord charts: paste or type a chart for any song, transpose it, and let it scroll on its own while you play. On iPad the chart sits right beside the timer.
• Journey: your streak, a 16-week practice heatmap, milestones, and semester and year recaps.
• Sets replace folders. A set can play in order or use its own instruments, and Smart Spin favors the songs you've practiced least.
• Friends: swap friend codes, see each other's streaks, and send stickers that land on a weekly cork board.
• Your album art can color the whole app, or pick from over a dozen themes.
FOR TEACHERS
• Studio: classes, join codes, a weekly practice grid for every student, and assignments with reusable templates.
• Send encouragement stickers to one student, a class, or everyone.
• Class spin: spin a wheel of your students' faces to pick who plays, then spin a song from the class's set. Great for group lessons.

Fixes for the things that were quietly going missing.
Practice that reaches your teacher
Some practice never made it to your teacher — sessions you logged without a signal, or on a song you renamed later. Those come through now, and your earlier practice gets sent along too, so your teacher sees the whole picture.
Your library, right after signing in
Sign in and your songs and history are there right away. Before, the app could look empty until you closed it and opened it again.
Instruments follow you
The instruments you play — including any you added yourself — now save to your account, so they come with you to a new phone.
Song cleanup you can see
Tidying up a song with iTunes now updates the screen straight away, instead of looking like nothing happened.
Edits that stick
Notes, effort, and instruments you add to a practice session always save now.
A clearer welcome
Entering a class code tells you which teacher you joined, and if signing in doesn't work, it says why.
1.6.8 Sep 1
Teachers, this one's for you:
- Teachers practice too — the wheel, timer, streaks, and stats have always been yours as well; the role screen now says so.
- Teachers can join a teacher: taking lessons of your own? Enter your teacher's class code under Profile and your practice mirrors to them, while your own class code keeps working.
- Class codes entered during setup now actually link you to your teacher — and entering your own code tells you so.
- New in Settings: export a diagnostics log to send to support if practice isn't reaching your teacher. Account ids are shortened and your email is never included.

Bigger artwork, tighter design, two new themes
NEW THEMES
• Neon Nights — a synthwave skyline after dark, in Liquid Glass.
• Seaglass — cool water and sea air, our first light glass theme in a cool palette.
• Both sit at the top of the theme picker, next to Aurora and Solar.
A CLEANER WHEEL
• Album artwork is about a quarter larger and now loads at full resolution instead of being upscaled — noticeably sharper on every recent iPhone.
• The history arrows moved onto the artwork itself, so the art gets the full width of the card.
• The screen no longer jumps when the wheel lands on a song. The buttons stay exactly where your thumb left them.
• Spacing was tightened across the whole app, so there's less empty space between you and what you came for.
FASTER
• Searching, sorting, and scrolling a large library are all quicker.
• Switching themes repaints instantly.
• The metronome no longer rebuilds its click sound on every beat, and the tuner does about a third less work per reading.
YOUR LIBRARY, PROTECTED
• Updating the app can no longer cost you your songs or practice history.
• A single damaged record now costs just that record, instead of taking the whole library with it.
FIXES & POLISH
• Theme backgrounds used to fade out above the tab bar on larger iPhones, leaving an empty strip. They now fill the screen, and the drifting themes drift just as much on a big phone as a small one.
• Encouragement messages no longer briefly draw two lines of text on top of each other.
• Filled buttons pick their text colour from the theme's accent, so bright accents no longer get unreadable white text.

The Liquid Glass update
NEW THEMES
- Aurora and Solar: our first Liquid Glass themes, with slowly drifting gradients behind real glass cards. Aurora is the new default.
- Every classic theme refreshed with glass surfaces and a soft accent glow.
- Themes now cover the entire app, from Songs to Profile to Settings, not just the wheel.
MAKE IT YOURS
- The custom theme builder now starts from templates: build your own Liquid Glass theme with your own gradient colors, design a light or dark palette, or put a favorite photo behind glass cards.
A SMARTER PRACTICE TIMER
- Spin or browse to another song mid-session and we save your time first, then restart the timer on the new song, so every minute is logged to the song you actually practiced.
- Tap Start Timer with no song showing and the wheel spins and starts timing in one tap.
- Closing the practice log without saving no longer loses your session.
YOUR HISTORY, BACKED UP
- Practice sessions now back up to your account, including everything you have already logged. New phone or reinstall? Your history, streaks, and stats come with you.
FIXES AND POLISH
- The tuner now shows the correct octave for notes below middle C.
- More accurate practice logs for teachers, including instrument and song details.
- Sharper toolbar icons, better legibility in the Bugs theme, faster school search, and lots of smaller fixes.

Version 1.4.0 — Practice Smarter
Your biggest update yet. A handful of things you've been asking for, plus a few surprises.
- Pause the Timer — Phone call? Tuning break? Hit pause and pick up right where you left off. The timer now keeps counting accurately even if your phone locks mid-session.
- Delete & Undo Sessions — Swipe left on any practice row to delete an accidental start or empty session. Changed your mind? Tap Undo.
- Edit Your Reflections — Tap a logged session to update notes, effort, or instruments. Duration stays locked so your teacher always sees an honest practice log.
- Daily Goals & Streaks — Set a daily practice target. Watch your streak grow. Miss a day and you'll know.
- Practice Reminders — Pick a time and we'll nudge you so you never break your streak.
- Practice Stats — A new Stats page inside your Profile: last 30 days as bars, last 12 weeks as a line, and a 16-week practice heatmap.
- Built-in Tuner — Tap Tuner on any song to check your pitch. Shows note, octave, and cents off — no extra app needed.
- Sort & Filter Songs — Sort by most practiced, least practiced, or never practiced. Quick "Unpracticed only" toggle included.
- Smarter Exports — Share your practice log as CSV or JSON. If your teacher wants the full edit history, there's a dedicated audit-trail export too.
- iPad Sidebar — On iPad the tab bar becomes a collapsible sidebar, giving the wheel more room to breathe.
Thanks for practicing with us. Keep spinning.
