KindredCompass
AI Spots Matched to Your Taste
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Find places that feel like you, not the same ten everyone gets. Scan a city, plan a day out, or route a road trip — matched to your food, music, and lifestyle.
Every recommendation app hands everyone the same list. Same top restaurants, same highway diners, same "popular near you."
KindredCompass starts somewhere else: with you. It learns your food, your music, and the kind of places that actually feel right — then matches you with spots worth your time. Hunting dinner tonight, planning a Saturday, routing a cross-country road trip, or mapping an RV haul, every result is shaped by who you are.
Four ways to use it. One taste profile behind all of them.
SCAN — WHAT'S GOOD NEAR ME, RIGHT NOW
Open the app, tap Scan. Get matches for food, drinks, activities, and places to stay — near you or in any city you're visiting. Type a craving ("wings," "live music," "quiet coffee") to narrow it down.
ADVENTURE — A CURATED DAY OUT
Three themed day plans, each a mini-story from morning coffee to evening wind-down — and the kind of unexpected stop you'd never have searched for yourself. Edit any stop before you go; re-route on the fly when the weather turns.
ROAD TRIP — STOPS MATCHED TO YOU, A TO B
Plan a multi-day route with overnight stays, meal stops, and detours curated to your taste. No more hunting reviews at every exit.
RV MODE — BUILT FOR RVERS WHO KNOW WHAT THEY LIKE
Save every rig you own and switch between them per trip. Big-rig-friendly routing with mountain-pass warnings, daily drive caps, hookup filtering (30A/50A/Full), pet-friendly filtering, and a Boondocking Mode biased toward Harvest Hosts, Boondockers Welcome, Bureau of Land Management public lands, and overnight-friendly stops.
DISCOVERY
Flip on Discovery and KindredCompass leans away from your usual favorites toward new spots that still fit your taste — so you keep finding places you haven't tried.
HOW IT LEARNS YOU
Onboarding takes about two minutes. Name a few spots you already love, tap through food/music/lifestyle tags, and your taste profile is built. From there it sharpens with every scan — save a favorite, rate a stop, skip a dud. You don't train it; you just use it.
PRIVACY FIRST
• No accounts, no logins, no email
• Your profile, favorites, and trip history live only on your device and your own iCloud
• We never sell your data or track you across other apps
• To generate recommendations, we send your anonymous taste tags and search area to Google Gemini — never your name or account — and you can turn that off anytime in Profile → Privacy
BUILT FOR REAL USE
• Native on iPhone and iPad
• Apple Weather for context-aware scans and weather-reactive routing
• Live Activities + Home Screen widgets for trips in progress
• Optimized for VoiceOver, Dynamic Type, and Reduced Motion
• Household DNA Pairing — blend your profile with a partner's for joint planning
• Works in any town, not just major metros
WHO IT'S FOR
• Travelers who want real local spots, not tourist traps
• RVers and road trippers who want routing that fits their rig and their taste
• Locals rediscovering their own city
• Anyone who's ever thought "this place isn't me" and wanted better

more Wife and I went to pick our son up from college and she had to use the restroom. We used pit stop and even though we were going down a two lane back road it sated there was an Exxon 1 min ahead, my wife said oh yeah sure and she was blown away, there was an Exxon right where it said it was. Also on the way home it had us take a 6 mile detour for lunch saying was a 94% match to my Social DNA or “Vibe” and ill just say the 1933 Public House burger was amazing with a great atmosphere to boot.

The Scan screen got a redesign — cleaner, calmer, and faster. We collapsed the cluttered three-bar header to one, stripped the busy loading state, and trimmed the inputs. Scans land about 1–3 seconds sooner because weather no longer makes you wait.
What else is new:
• Distances you can trust. Cards now show real driving time, and Scan only surfaces places you can actually reach — no more "9 miles away" that turns out to be an hour around the water.
• Better coverage off the beaten path. When an area is thin on results, we widen the net so small towns and rural stops still turn up real matches.
• Honest recommendations. Adventure and Scan no longer call a place pet- or kid-friendly without the data to back it up — what the app tells you about a place is what it actually knows.
• You control AI personalization. KindredCompass uses Google Gemini to match places to your taste — now you choose to turn it on, and can turn it off anytime in Profile → Privacy. Your name and account are never sent.
• Reliability + polish. Pit Stop properly tracks you on a moving trip, long drives at odd hours get a coffee stop so the timeline isn't bare, and the look is cleaner and more consistent across every mode.
• A clearer Pro card on Home — see what's included and manage your plan in one tap.
Almost everything here came from real-device testing. Keep telling us what's off.

A big update — meet Discovery, plus six versions of improvements rolled into one (everything from 4.2 through 4.7).
DISCOVERY (NEW)
• New toggle in Adventure. Flip Discovery on and KindredCompass biases toward spots that match your DNA but you haven't favorited yet — find new places instead of replaying your usuals. Your favorites still surface when they're genuinely the best fit; Discovery just stops them being the easy answer every time.
SMARTER, FASTER SCANS
• Apple-native search powers every scan — faster, more accurate, far better coverage of local independents in smaller cities
• Native autocomplete — start typing a city or craving and suggestions appear as you go
• Results sort strictly by match percentage; saved favorites get a small green star instead of an artificial top spot
• No more duplicate cards — name, punctuation, ampersand, and ethnic-cuisine/compound-name variants ("Casa Del Barco Restaurant & Tequilaria" vs "Casa del Barco") all collapse to one
NEW WAYS TO SCAN
• Date Night Mode — one toggle composes the right vibe for two: dinner, drinks, and something to do
• Hidden Gems — reliably filters chain hotels in your stays and chain restaurants in Adventure
• Free-tier honesty — scans-left counter, free-preview chips, and clear paywall framing before you tap
BETTER TRIPS
• Adventure finishes more often, and now reliably builds all three plans even with kids, a partner, and pets along
• Road Trip suggests a meal at your destination when you arrive at mealtime; the When sheet opens full-screen
• Smarter Road Trip & RV stops — remote areas widen the search, and wrong-state look-alikes (a venue hundreds of miles away sharing your town's name) are filtered out
• RV Mode tells you when filters are hiding everything, with a one-tap reset
POLISH & RELIABILITY
• Refined dark theme — true black backgrounds, photos and rings pop, OLED battery savings
• Edit your Travel style in Profile without re-running the full DNA flow
• A self-healing secure connection — the app recovers on its own instead of getting stuck — plus faster repeat scans and a long list of fixes from real cross-country testing

Maintenance Tracker for RVers
• Track AC filters, water filters, propane cert, tires, oil — all nine standard items per rig
• 7-day-out and day-of reminders so nothing sneaks up on you
• One tap finds nearby RV parts stores, tire shops, propane refill, or service centers — sorted by distance with one-tap directions
• Pro feature; founding members get it free
Adventures that know who's with you
• Bringing the dog? Adventures now use real venue data — not guesses — to pick spots that actually welcome pets
• Kids in the crew? Family-friendly only, and shorter durations
• Tap any stop on an adventure to research it before you go — photos, ratings, hours, one-tap directions
• Stay times feel honest: 25 minutes for a coffee stop, not 60
Road trips that don't forget lunch
• Long highway drives used to skip lunch when there was nothing right on the route. Now the planner finds a worthwhile stop slightly off-corridor and tells you the detour up front
• Trip Recap maps now trace the actual roads instead of a straight line between cities
• Cleaner addresses everywhere — less ", USA" noise, more venue name visible
Quick Pit Stop, now where you need it
• Pit Stop is one tap from Drive Mode, the RV hub, AND any active road trip
• Food, gas, charging, coffee, or a dump station — results are sorted by what's ahead, not what's nearby
Cravings that actually work
• Type "vegan," "sushi," "ramen," "kosher," "ethiopian" — they all return real matches now instead of an empty list
• Even with a craving set, the To Do and To Stay tabs always have content to browse
Polish
• Faster, more reliable scans
• Quietly more secure under the hood — every request is now cryptographically tied to your install
• Adventure stop cards have a small category badge so a 5-stop itinerary is skimmable at a glance
• Smaller fixes: subscription state never flips on you incorrectly, free uses survive a reinstall, schema-mismatch quarantines protect saved data
Thanks for using KindredCompass. Every release this year has come from a real user request — keep them coming. kindredcompasssupport@gmail.com

4.0 May 1
3.9 — A new look across every mode and a thank-you to early users.
WHAT'S NEW
• Cleaner layouts across Scan, Adventure, Road Trip, and RV. Every mode now feels like part of the same family.
• Faster scans. A new cache means repeat searches use less data and load nearly instantly.
• RV mode redesigned. My Rig, Plan a Trip, and Stop Style now front-and-center on the empty state.
• Road Trip gets the same treatment — Route, Vehicle, and When at a glance.
• First-run walkthroughs on every mode. Tap the ? button anytime to revisit.
• Brighter colors, better contrast, fuller Dynamic Type support.
FOUNDING MEMBER
Anyone who installs before we start charging keeps full access — every mode, every feature — free for life. Look for the Founding Member badge in your profile. That's our thank you.
Plus accessibility polish and bug fixes throughout.
3.9 Apr 30
Tell us what you're craving. Type "wings," "sushi," "live music," or "quiet coffee" into Scan and get the real-matched spot near you — not the algorithm's top pick.
Every adventure now has something to do. Adventure Mode guarantees at least one activity stop (golf, escape rooms, bowling, pickleball, dance clubs, galleries, parks, and more) — no more food-only crawls.
Unified filters for RV Mode. All your hookup, dump station, boondocking, and rig toggles now live in one clean sheet — matching how Scan already worked.
Browse past adventures. Tap the clock icon on the Adventure setup screen to see every trip you've taken.
Smarter home. Your greeting adapts to how recently you've been here. New users get a soft nudge to build their DNA for sharper matches.
Polish. Bigger match reasons, better empty states, proper Reduce Motion support, unified design system across every surface.
3.6 Apr 24
A brand-new home screen, faster scans, and a handful of polish
that adds up.
A NEW HOME
Four cards, one tap. Scan, Adventure, Road Trip, and RV now live
as first-class choices the moment you open the app. Every mode is
visible from launch — no more hunting in menus. A Home button on
every screen takes you back in one tap.
SCANS FEEL SNAPPIER
Cached thumbnails, smarter scan deduplication, and parallel weather
fetches mean scan results arrive noticeably faster and scrolling
the list is smoother.
A BETTER "THREE PATHS"
When Adventure generation is scouting your three paths, the active
branch now highlights as each path gets explored — a small touch
that makes loading feel alive instead of frozen.
BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND: WHAT'S NEW
Some of you told us the "What's New" sheet that showed up after
3.3 was missing from 3.4. It's back, and this version also recaps
the 3.4 features you may not have noticed — editable adventures,
mid-trip re-routing, saved rigs, mountain pass warnings, and the
"What We're Learning" DNA panel.
UNDER THE HOOD
Consistent Home button treatment across all four modes. Brand
wordmark on the home screen. A dozen small fixes tester
feedback surfaced across last week's 3.4 beta cycle.
Keep the feedback coming: kindredcompasssupport@gmail.com — real
human on the other end.
3.5 Apr 23
Adventure mode grew up, RV planning got serious, and everything under
the hood runs smoother.
ADVENTURE MODE — PLANS YOU CAN STEER
• Edit any adventure before you start — swap a stop for a different
DNA match, or drop one entirely. The schedule rebuilds around your
changes.
• Re-route from anywhere mid-trip. Weather turned? Running late?
Stop closed? Tap "Re-route from here" for fresh stops tuned to
your new reality.
• The app now tells you what it's learning. A new "What We're
Learning" panel shows exactly how your taste profile is evolving —
weighted tags, adventure-style preference, rating breakdown, and
the verbatim context we inject into every scan.
• Weather turned sideways? The app offers a one-tap pivot to
indoor-friendly stops without losing the adventure thread.
• Choose who's with you right from the Adventure setup — Solo,
Partner, Kids, Friends, Pets, Extended Family. No more detouring
through Settings just to go solo tonight.
RV MODE — BUILT FOR REAL ROADS
• Save every rig you own. Weekend trailer plus full-timer motorhome?
Switch between them per trip. No more re-editing your setup from
scratch.
• Mountain pass warnings. We now flag 20+ named US passes on your
route (Eisenhower, Vail, Wolf Creek, Cabbage Hill, the Grapevine,
Teton, Tioga...) with elevation, max grade, and RV-specific notes.
• Boondocking Mode biases your whole search toward Harvest Hosts,
Boondockers Welcome, BLM, National Forest dispersed camping, and
overnight-friendly Walmart / Cracker Barrel / Flying J stops.
• Hookup filter that actually filters. "50A" now also shows Full
Hookup campgrounds. No more exact-match strictness hiding
perfectly good parks.
• Dump + potable water filter for long trips.
POLISH
• Scan results feel noticeably faster — big thumbnail cache,
parallel weather fetch, smarter rendering.
• Road Trip plans can no longer hang forever. Hard 120-second cap
with a friendly retry if anything stalls.
• Full accessibility pass — 44pt tap targets on every dismiss
button, Reduce Motion respected across Adventure transitions,
VoiceOver labels cleaned up.
THANKS
Big thanks to the TestFlight crew for the screenshots, the 22-mile
Christiansburg dinner backtrack report, the "1 of 6" frozen spinner
catch, and every bug you flagged. This release exists because of you.
kindredcompasssupport@gmail.com — real human on the other end.
3.4 Apr 22
3.3 is a polish pass that makes Road Trip and RV planning feel
like something you'd actually trust on a real trip — plus a big
rework of Adventure Mode.
ROAD TRIP
• New map view with your full route and every stop
• Long-press any meal or overnight to swap it
• Overnights now lean into your DNA — no more default chains
when your profile says boutique, historic, or cabin
• Meals anchor to actual clock time (no more lunch at 9 PM)
• Fuel, meal, and hotel picks stay within a drivable corridor
of your route — no more 15-mile detours for a sandwich
• Recently planned trips shelf on the builder
• Typed error messages when a trip can't be planned
RV MODE
• Meals are now opt-in — the timeline assumes you're cooking in
the rig, with a single "Feel like eating out?" pill per day
• Rig length is a hard constraint on campground picks
• Fuel stops on every driving day
• Fixed duplicate venues and cross-town dinner backtracks
• Smarter display times so late arrivals don't show midnight meals
ADVENTURE MODE (big rework)
• Three kinds of day instead of three interchangeable options:
Slow · Full · Unexpected — each with its own color and pace
• Every adventure nominates one "don't miss" signature moment
with a specific tip for that stop
• Your ratings now teach the app — after a few adventures, you'll
start seeing what we're learning about your taste
POLISH
• VoiceOver landmarks across RV and Road Trip
• Fade edges on scrollable pills, Dynamic Type support in timelines
• Confirm before "New" trashes an unsaved plan
• Heart overlay on food rows, recent-destination chips
• "Book on [platform]" CTA when a campground has a known booking link
As always — kindredcompasssupport@gmail.com for bugs and feedback.
3.3 Apr 22
Adventure Mode — tap once for three themed day-plans, breakfast to home-by, curated to your DNA. Live walkthrough follows you stop to stop.
Road Trip overnights now match your DNA — boutique inns, B&Bs, and cabins instead of whichever chain hotel was closest.
Scan results fill more reliably in suburbs and small towns, with far more photos loading.
Full accessibility pass — Reduce Motion, VoiceOver, bigger tap targets, scalable type throughout.
3.2 Apr 22
3.1 — Travel together.
• NEW: Household DNA. Pair with a travel partner via QR code — scans now blend both of your profiles. Food, music, lifestyle, and travel companions all unite. Disliked venues merge so you never get recommended something either of you hated. One tap toggles "Just me" vs "Chuck + Sarah" under the city selector.
• Pair in person, in seconds. Show your code. They scan. Then swap. Everything stays on your devices — no accounts, no servers, no data leaves your phones.
• RV Mode membership perks now surface on main scans too. If you have KOA, Good Sam, or Harvest Hosts and a scan returns a participating venue, you'll see a perk chip on the card.
• Fixed: RV Trip Planner no longer silently fails when you enter small unincorporated towns (Montpelier, VA and similar). Falls back to Google Places geocoding and tells you exactly which city couldn't be found if one still doesn't resolve.
• Fixed: Searching for a specific mood (like "best patty melt") no longer surfaces your saved favorites if they don't match the search. Favorites still come back on plain scans.
• Polish: Keyboard now dismisses automatically when scan results arrive — no more half-covered screens.
3.1 Apr 21
A cleaner, leaner 2.9 — especially when you're on the move.
• One Plan sheet. Day Trip, Road Trip, RV Mode, and On My Way now live behind a single "Plan" entry so the menu stays focused on what matters.
• Drive Mode explained. The first time Drive Mode kicks in, a short tip now shows you what it's doing and why results skew ahead of you.
• Widget refresh. The home-screen widget now actually looks like KindredCompass. A full favorites-powered widget is coming in 3.0.
• Under the hood. Faster persistence, quieter background work, and a big round of cleanups so the app feels sharper in daily use.
Thanks for using KindredCompass. Keep sending feedback — it shapes every release.
2.9 Apr 18
**KindredCompass 2.7 — Lean, snappy, and a little smarter.**
A top-to-bottom polish pass. Same DNA, sharper edges.
• **Faster feel everywhere.** Images cache instantly, and skeleton cards appear the moment you scan — no more silent spinners.
• **A warmer welcome.** KindredCompass greets you by name and shifts with the time of day: coffee in the morning, dinner at night.
• **Your top pick, up front.** When a spot nails 85%+ of your DNA, it's showcased as a hero card at the top of results.
• **Scan narration.** Watch what we're doing in real time — "Reading the room," "Matching your food DNA" — instead of staring at a loader.
• **Refined haptics.** Every tap, save, and milestone has a considered feel. Saving a spot or hitting a favorites milestone responds with the right texture.
• **Accessibility + Dynamic Type.** Better VoiceOver labels, selection states, and readable text at every size.
• **Dark-mode polish and dozens of small fixes.** Gentler empty states, clearer errors, a cleaner header.
Thanks — your feedback shaped this one.
2.7 Apr 18
New in 2.6
KindredCompass now learns your taste. The new Adaptive Learning Engine watches how you use the app and builds a preference profile from your real behavior. Save a spot, skip another, linger on a card and the AI adjusts. After enough signal your results are quietly personalized and your Profile shows exactly what it has learned.
Road trips got a full upgrade. Plan a multi-day drive and the app builds a complete day-by-day itinerary with DNA-matched lunch stops, dinner picks, overnight hotels, and a fresh breakfast recommendation each morning at the overnight city. Share the full itinerary in one tap.
Also new: On My Way mode finds DNA-matched stops along any route you are already driving. Group DNA Scan merges two profiles and finds spots both people will enjoy. Drive Mode shifts the radar ahead of you at highway speed. Results now lean toward coffee in the morning, lunch at noon, and dinner and bars in the evening automatically. Passive Drive Alerts notify you when you are about to pass a high-match spot even when the app is closed.
2.6 Apr 17
Now on iPad. KindredCompass runs native on iPad with full portrait and landscape support.
Share your DNA to Instagram Stories. One-tap action sends your DNA card straight to Stories, pre-sized and ready to post.
RV stops that fit your rig. Stops too long for your rig, missing the hookups you want, or not pet-friendly are now flagged up front.
Save and reload your RV trips. Bookmark any trip you have planned and open it again in one tap, no re-planning needed.
Free-Only filter. Boondockers and free-camp fans can zero in on no-cost stops with a single toggle.
Rig setup prompt. A friendly nudge on first open so fit warnings work with your actual trailer or motorhome.
Discover Social DNA. A gentle hint on the scan screen points new travelers to the Compare-with-a-Friend flow.
Road trip remembers your car. Your vehicle profile (gas, hybrid, or EV) now persists across sessions and syncs via iCloud.
Lunch-time road trip stops. Food stops now pin to around noon when your trip crosses lunch hour instead of whenever the next fuel stop lands.
Pittsburgh added to the city picker.
Live Activity polish. Your scan now reliably shows up on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island.
All-around polish. Smoother haptics, warmer copy, better Dynamic Type, and a retry if a photo does not load.
2.5 Apr 16
Fixes a bug where some scans could show the same spot more than once, and clarifies the "no spots found" message when we can't verify places in an area.
2.4.1 Apr 16
New in 2.4:
• Share your DNA — a beautiful shareable card for friends, Stories, anywhere
• Smoother scans — faster matches, clearer error messages, better empty states
• Better first experience — helpful nudges to guide new travelers
• Full accessibility — VoiceOver, Dynamic Type, and Reduced Motion polish
• Privacy manifest — certified private, no accounts, no tracking
Rediscover what's already here:
• "Hey Siri, scan for spots" — hands-free discovery in the car
• Home Screen widgets — your top match, always a glance away
• Check-ins — mark the places you've actually been
Your DNA stays on your device. Always.
2.4 Apr 16
• Fixed "Driftly" name appearing in location permission prompt
• Fixed Tip Jar not loading in-app purchases
• Full VoiceOver accessibility improvements across all screens
• RV Trip Planner no longer locks up while planning a route
• Tap the plan button again to cancel a route mid-planning
• Major code cleanup and file organization under the hood
2.3 Apr 15
