Prairie Sentinels
A Prairie Grain Elevator Guide
Free
Prairie Sentinels is an explorer's companion for anyone drawn to the iconic grain elevators of the Canadian prairies.
Once a defining feature of the prairie skyline, grain elevators are disappearing fast. Prairie Sentinels puts them on the map — literally — so you can discover, track, and learn about the ones that still stand, and remember the ones that are gone.
Explore the Map
Open the app to a map view showing grain elevators across the prairies. Tap any marker to see what's there — name, location, current status, and photos. Zoom out to see the full sweep of the prairie landscape. Zoom in to plan your next drive.
Track Your Visits
Mark elevators as visited as you explore. At a glance, the color-coded map tells you which ones you've seen, which are still standing, which have been lost, and which are yet to be confirmed.
Discover What's Near You
Use your location to find elevators in your area, or explore anywhere on the map to plan ahead. Whether you're on a road trip through Saskatchewan or just passing through a small Manitoba town, there's likely a sentinel nearby.
A Living Record
The database behind Prairie Sentinels is an ongoing effort to document these landmarks. Some entries are well-documented. Others are mysteries waiting to be uncovered.
Prairie Sentinels is free, with no ads and no in-app purchases.
Available in English and French.
