Go Pish
Better Birding
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Find rare birds near you or anywhere, see which reports eBird reviewers have accepted, and run point counts, transects and lists right from the field.
Pish is a rarity-first birding app. Open it and see the rare birds being reported near you right now, then go find them.
RARITY RADAR
A live list of rare and notable birds near you, built on eBird data and sorted by distance so the closest birds come first. Switch from Near me to any county, province or country to see what's turning up elsewhere, or tap Megas only for the true standouts. Tap a species for a map of every report, a timeline of who saw it and when, the latest checklist comment, and one-tap directions.
KNOW WHICH REPORTS ARE SOLID
Every report shows its eBird review status, so you can see at a glance which ones a regional reviewer has accepted and how many people have seen the bird. Birders can weigh in with community verification, and reports that drop out of eBird are flagged.
LOG LIKE A FIELD TECH
Log a bird in seconds. Type a four-letter code or a name, tap the count to type it in, and add sex and age, detection type, breeding codes, confidence, bearing and distance, notes, photos and audio. Sightings save with no signal and sync when you're back online. Flag a rarity to alert the community.
SURVEYS AND POINT COUNTS
Run point counts (fixed or unlimited distance, back-to-back, or BBS-style routes), line transects, or a simple list. Name your sites and routes, record conditions like wind, sky, cloud cover, noise and temperature, keep a running species tally, and review everything before you submit. Point counts stop right on time, and you can export your surveys to CSV.
TRACK YOUR LISTS
Import your eBird data to see a unified life list and year list that combines your eBird history with your Pish sightings. Build lists for any region, set goals, and drill into your species by region, year or month.
MY NEEDS
See which rare birds reported nearby are still missing from your lists, on a color-coded map or as a list.
RARE BIRD ALERTS
Get a push notification when a rarity is reported near you. Mute a bird once you've seen it; mutes clear on their own after 90 days, or sooner once the bird goes quiet.
Pish is free to use.
Privacy first: we don't track you across apps, we don't sell your data, and we don't show ads. Your bird observations may be used in anonymized, aggregated form for ornithological research.

Pish 1.3 is our biggest update yet: a smarter Rarity Radar, full field surveys, and a long list of fixes.
RARITY RADAR
• Look anywhere. Tap Change to see rarities near you, across your county or province, or for a whole country. Near me is always one tap away.
• New Megas only filter and a 30-day window.
• eBird review status on every bird: see when reports have been accepted by an eBird reviewer, and how many people have seen it.
• Community verification tallies right on the radar cards.
• Reports that have been removed from eBird are now clearly flagged.
• Record badges for notable firsts, like a first record for a province or country.
• Mute birds you've already seen. Mutes clear on their own after 90 days, or sooner once the bird goes quiet.
• The latest eBird checklist comment, with its date and time, at the top of every bird.
• More accurate report and observer counts, correct local times, and many previously missing rarities now appear.
LOGGING
• Tap the count to type it in. No more tapping + twenty times for a flock of pelicans.
• Type a 4-letter code like SPTO and Pish picks the species for you.
• Sightings save without signal and sync when you're back online.
• A new binoculars icon for visual detections.
SURVEYS (NEW)
• Point counts (fixed or unlimited distance, back-to-back, and BBS-style routes), line transects, and simple lists.
• Name your site, route and location, and find them all in My Surveys.
• A running species tally while you survey, and a review screen at the end to edit counts or swipe away mistakes before you submit.
• Bearing and distance to each bird, open by default on surveys.
• Record conditions: noise, wind, sky, cloud cover, temperature and precipitation.
• Point counts stop right on time, and you can chain straight into the next point of a route.
• If your phone dies mid-survey, Pish recovers the session so nothing is lost.
• Survey times shown in the local time where you surveyed, plus delete and CSV export.
FIXES
• Fixed false "Lifer" badges on species with more than one form.
• Fixed sign-in confirmation issues, settings that didn't stick, and a start button that sometimes needed two taps.
• Lots of smaller polish throughout.
