Your weather app says 87°F. The asphalt your dog is standing on is 125°F.
That gap is why we built Pawcast™, the dog weather app from a real team of veterinarians, veterinary nurses, and dog trainers.
Air temperature was never meant to describe a dog walk. It doesn't know your dog has a double coat. Or that she's eleven now. Or that the parking lot between your door and the park holds heat long after the sun moves off it.
HOW HOT IS TOO HOT TO WALK YOUR DOG? HOW COLD IS TOO COLD?
Those are the questions our veterinary team hears most, every summer and every winter. Pawcast answers them for your specific dog, hour by hour.
DOG FEEL°
Your dog's own temperature. Dog Feel° takes the hourly forecast and adjusts it for breed, coat, size, age, weight, and health history. Same afternoon, same sidewalk: a Husky and a French Bulldog get different readings. They're having different afternoons.
ONE SCORE, THREE TIERS
Every hour gets a 0 to 100 Risk Score and a plain-language status: WITHIN RANGE, CAUTION, or HIGH RISK. You know where the walk stands at a glance.
WALK WINDOWS
The day laid out hour by hour with your dog's range marked on it: BELOW RANGE, WITHIN RANGE, ABOVE RANGE. Spot the cool stretch at 7am. See which hours to skip. No math in your head.
PAVEMENT AND GROUND TEMPERATURE
The part that surprises people. Pawcast estimates asphalt, concrete, sidewalk, and grass temperatures separately, in sun and in shade. Same block, same minute: those readings can sit dozens of degrees apart, and hot pavement is how paw burns happen. We built this from infrared field measurements taken coast to coast, on urban, suburban, and rural surfaces, across seasons.
HEAT, COLD, SNOW, AND STORMS
Summer heat, winter cold, snow, rain, and thunderstorms, read for your dog, not your commute. A storm-anxious dog and a dog who sleeps through thunder are two different planning problems. Pawcast plans for both.
ALERTS YOU ACTUALLY WANT
When heat, cold, pavement temperature, or a storm drifts toward the edge of your dog's range, Pawcast tells you early. Early enough to move the walk. Tune what comes through and when.
EVERY DOG, EVERY PLACE
Puppy, senior, or anywhere in between. Add every dog in the house. Check dog weather at home, at the trailhead before a hike, or wherever you're headed next.
BUILT BY VETERINARY PROFESSIONALS
Pawcast comes from TeleTails, the virtual pet care platform serving 1.53M+ pet parents. Our clinical team of veterinarians, veterinary nurses, and dog trainers built the thresholds. Our Chief Veterinary Officer, Dr. Hilary Jones, is a Tufts-trained DVM with years in emergency practice. Every threshold and every number in this app goes through her before it reaches you.
Our veterinary team also writes the Weather.pet blog: practical guides to better walks in heat, cold, and storms.
A Pug and a Husky are not having the same day. Not in August. Not in January. Neither is an eleven-year-old anything. Pawcast starts there.
Pawcast is an informational tool. It does not diagnose, treat, or replace veterinary care. If your dog is in distress, contact a veterinary professional.
