Custoda: Expiry Tracker
Allergens, recipes & reminders
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Know what is on your shelf and what needs using next. Custoda brings pantry stock, expiry reminders and recipe ideas together, so the food you already have is easier to use.
SCAN, CONFIRM AND KEEP TRACK
Scan a barcode to identify a product, then confirm the printed expiry date with on-device text recognition or quick manual entry. Keep track of quantities as you use a product. Estimated dates are a starting point: always confirm against the label.
SEE WHAT NEEDS USING
Keep food and drink, medicines, toiletries and household supplies in one inventory. Save replace-by dates for smoke alarms, carbon-monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers and first-aid supplies. Get reminders based on the dates you save.
MAKE DINNER FROM YOUR SHELF
Find recipes that use what you already have, including ingredients approaching their expiry date. Save recipes you want to return to and make the next meal easier to plan.
SHARE A LITTLE, OR KEEP IT PERSONAL
Share a household shopping list through private iCloud invitations. Optionally share selected food from your inventory and use shared stock for family meal suggestions. Suggest a recipe and vote on dinner together.
Inventory sharing starts off. You choose which food to share and can stop sharing it. Your allergen and diet profile stays on your device.
CHECK INGREDIENTS AGAINST YOUR PREFERENCES
Add household allergies and dietary choices to see relevant ingredient warnings when product information is available. Warnings for everything on your avoid list are always shown, even after the trial.
Product and allergen data comes from open, community databases and can be incomplete. Always check the packaging. Custoda does not confirm that a product is safe and is not medical advice.
PRIVACY AND PURCHASES
Your allergen and diet profile stays on your device. Optional shared lists, selected food and saved recipes sync through your own iCloud. No adverts or tracking.
Try the full features for 7 days with up to 20 stored items. After the trial, keep up to 5 items free or unlock unlimited storage and Pro features with a one-time purchase. After the trial, the free plan includes up to 3 avoid-list entries; diet preferences and a longer avoid list come with the unlock. No subscription.

Bug fixes:
• Long shelves stuttered the first time you scrolled through them, because every row unpacked its picture at the exact moment it came on screen. Pictures are now ready before you get there, so the list glides from the first swipe.
• Items scrolling past the top showed through the search bar like a ghost shelf. Search and the category filters now sit on a solid strip, and the list slides neatly underneath.

What's new in 1.2.3
• Beans had an identity crisis: any bean counted as "white beans", so kidney beans turned up in cannellini recipes. Beans and lentils now match by variety.
• Other impostors are out too: white sugar no longer passes for brown sugar, sesame oil for cooking oil, beef mince for sliced beef, or a chicken breast for a whole chicken.
• Shelf names in German, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Hindi, Japanese, Chinese and Korean are now recognised for recipes. Vollmilch, pommes de terre, 牛乳 and friends finally count.
• On iPhones with Apple Intelligence, products whose names don't say what they are can be identified on-device for recipe matching.
• The first screen now asks you to confirm that Custoda isn't medical advice, and that medicines are a question for a pharmacist or doctor.
• The upgrade screen now says what the App Store description says: warnings for your whole avoid list are always shown, even after the trial; diets and a longer list come with the unlock.
Also in this update:
• If you typed a product's ingredients and later cleared them, the avoid-list check now says it couldn't verify the ingredients, instead of reporting that nothing on your list was found in an empty list. Always check the label.
• Avoid-list entries typed as plurals now reach compound words on German labels: "Mandeln" catches "Mandelmehl".
• Snoozing a reminder the day before expiry no longer snoozes straight past the expiry day. The "expires today" reminder stays.
• Leaving the app at exactly the wrong moment could make it briefly forget your unlock and quietly cancel your reminders. It now holds on.
• A 1,000 g bag of flour is no longer a suspiciously light 1 g bag.
• Dates written as 2027年3月12日 are now read from labels.
• A few barcodes that happened to start with "01" could invent an expiry date. They no longer do.
• Editing one of your own recipes now refreshes the "Cook tonight" list straight away.
• A product photo that arrived late could reappear after you said it was the wrong product. It now stays gone.
• Recipe pages now carry the same "check the label" note as the rest of the app.

What's new in 1.2.1
• Dinner was starting to repeat itself. Added 56 everyday recipes, including potato purée, waffles, pancakes, scrambled eggs, porridge, chicken soup and spaghetti bolognese. The library now has 828 recipes; recipe text remains in English.
• Offline products keep more of their details: ingredient text, diet tags and nutrition grades, with sources and freshness information. Missing facts stay marked as missing.
• Find products by name, brand, category or barcode. Photograph a label, review the recognized ingredient text and save a private correction on your device. The label gets the last word.
• Download optional regional food catalogs for offline use. Product data and optional photo caching have separate controls.
• Half a carton is still half a carton. Saved items now use known product pack sizes when calculating recipe stock: 50% of twelve eggs means six, with matching shopping-list quantities.
1.2.1 Oct 6
• Your pantry gets more elbow room: Custoda now runs natively on iPad, in portrait and landscape.
• Browse recipes in a roomy card grid, with readable item and recipe screens that adapt to your window size.
• Find more apps from Blue Flame Games in Items and Settings.

What's new in 1.1.1
• The number pad that wouldn't leave. Type a pack size and the keyboard sat on top of "How much is left" like a cat on a laptop, while the Done button did nothing at all. Done now means done, and scrolling puts the keyboard away too.
• The buttons at the top of "Set expiry dates" always worked. They just never told anyone. Tap "+1w" and it now lights up, on the top row and on every item, so you can see what you picked.
• Made a typo? You no longer have to delete the item and start again. Ingredients you typed, the category and the brand can all be fixed on the item's own screen, and entries on your avoid list and the shared shopping list can be renamed (long-press them).
• Adding something by hand now lets you say how big the pack is and how much is left, instead of making you save it first and come back.
• The shared list's keyboard now goes away when you press done on an empty line. It used to pop straight back up, as if it had more to say.
• The date buttons are easier to hit. They were sized for smaller thumbs than yours.

What's new in 1.1.0
• Custoda used to look like a tax form. It now has proper art: every recipe opens on an illustrated banner for its cuisine, the Recipes tab has "For you" picks and "Explore by region", and dark mode no longer shines bright cream squares at you.
• New icon: the fridge got a paint job. Same fridge, now hand-painted, with a little shield on the door.
• Minced and ground are the same thing. Custoda didn't know that. Now it does, and your minced pork will never again count as the ground beef a recipe wants. The name you give an item is now the one recipes believe.
• Sharper allergen warnings: "Almonds" on your list now catches "almond flour", a "may contain peanuts" can no longer hide behind a milk warning, labels in other languages are recognised, Shellfish now covers molluscs too, and Lupin joins the list.
• 179 recipes were fibbing about their diet tags (hello, "dairy-free" chicken piccata made with butter, and "vegetarian" beans with bacon). Their tags now match their ingredients.
• If an item's name ended in a stray space, just opening and closing it could wipe its allergen facts. Not any more.
• Also fixed: "Save Image" in the share sheet crashing; a quick-pick expiry date getting overwritten; Japanese dates read four years late; French "JUIL" read as June; a removed household member who couldn't leave the list; and a price shown in dollars everywhere before the App Store answered.

What's new in 1.0.9
• Recipes could count, but only to one. A box of eggs with two left happily "had" the six eggs your omelette needed. Custoda now works out what's actually left (pack size × how much is left), so it says "Only ~2 left" and puts just the 4 you're missing on the shopping list.
• The shopping list's "Already on your shelf" section showed the recipe's amount, as if you owned it. It now shows what you really have: "~9 left", or "20% left" when we can't count it.
• New: Pack size on every item. We read it from the name ("Eggs x12", "Milk 2L") or the barcode lookup, or you can type it in. For boxes of countable things, the "how much is left" stepper now counts one egg at a time.
• Recipe screens now update the moment you use something up, instead of remembering your fridge as it was.
• The household "Cook with what you have" vote counts amounts too, so nobody votes for a six-egg omelette on two eggs.

What's new in 1.0.8
• Tapping a common allergen in your Profile was a one-way door. Picked "Fish" by accident? Congratulations, you were now allergic to fish. Tap it again and it goes away.
• Finished the milk? Swipe it (or an expired item) and "Add to shopping list" puts it straight back on your family list — or in your basket if you shop solo.
• Recipes used to insist that "Tesco Semi Skimmed Milk 2L" was not milk and "Eggs x12" were not eggs. We've had a word. Pack sizes, brands, plurals and UK/US names (double cream, aubergine, beef mince) now count — and peanut butter still isn't butter.
• Recipe search only read titles. It now reads ingredients and cuisines too, and doesn't mind accents, so "eggs" finds your carbonara and "mamaliga" finds Mămăligă.
• Naming a product that arrived without a name quietly wiped its allergen data. That was the opposite of the point. Fixed.
• Tapping Cancel on "Set expiry dates" threw away every date you'd typed. It now remembers them.
• Snoozed reminders used to vanish when you opened the app. They now wait politely for their two days.
• Editing your own recipe showed the old version afterwards, and your other device could overwrite the edit. The newest edit wins now.
• Turning on "Organic" hid every single recipe, since no recipe is organic, a recipe being a list of words. Fixed.

Fixed a crash when opening expiry reminders. Tapping a notification now opens the relevant item reliably.
1.0.7 Sep 24
Can Make is faster and understands more ingredient name variants without confusing distinct foods such as buttermilk. Search is broader, Family List can optionally share all active food at once, and expiry notifications now name and safely open the product.
1.0.6 Sep 20
• More accurate product matching, classification and storage suggestions.
• More reliable scanning, renaming and saving. You can also correct product details after saving.
• Search and recipes recognise custom product names and translations.
• Optional household inventory sharing and meal suggestions. Sharing starts off; choose which food to share.
1.0.5 Sep 14
• Shared lists now use private iCloud invitations. Open your existing list, choose “Upgrade and keep my list”, then invite your family again. Everyone needs this update; old sharing codes retire. Your saved list stays with you.
• Two people called “Me” no longer compete for one vote. Each Apple account gets its own vote. Start a new poll after upgrading.
• The free trial now ends on time, even with Custoda open. Pro features require the one-time unlock afterward; saved items and free allergen warnings stay put.
1.0.4 Sep 7
• Our date reader gave February extra days and mixed up manufacturing and expiry dates. Calendar privileges revoked: impossible dates are rejected, year-first dates work, and expiry labels take priority.
1.0.3 Sep 5
What’s new in 1.0.2
• Our scanner was so eager that one barcode could occasionally become three or four items. It has learned that a barcode is an introduction, not a cloning spell.
• The scanner now takes a proper breather while you review a batch, and tidies up when you leave — fewer camera acrobatics, steadier scans.
• Sunflower oil was briefly promoted to medicine. Its pharmacy career has ended; food items now keep their food identity, even when their barcode brings a lot number to the party.

1.0.2 Aug 29
A small but mighty tune-up:
• We used to think "lactose-free" meant "dairy-free." A cow would like a word — lactose-free milk still has milk in it, so we stopped handing it a dairy-free pass.
• "Fish fingers" kept trying to move into the pantry. We've escorted them back to the fridge, where they belong.
• A few other quiet fixes so your labels get read right the first time.
