This release is primarily focused on fun! After you successfully complete a lesson or practice session, you'll get an optional mini game to play. Practise more often to get more mini games! You can turn them off or skip them if you prefer. A few new presentation modes help you go the extra motivational mile. Enthusiastic Mode shows you excessive bursts of excitement after each answer. And a new Aggressive Owl mode may be appreciated by fans of, uh, some other language learning apps. Turn these all on or off via the new Toys & Amusements section. I hope it gives you an extra smile and more reason to keep on studying! Keep a 5-day streak going and you can play any of the seven mini games whenever you like from Toys & Amusements. Also new: when the vocab drill asks from English, each answer choice has its own speaker, so you can hear every Portuguese option before you pick. VoiceOver now reads those choices in Portuguese too.

Grammar, vocabulary and verb practice explanations have been rewritten. Each one states the rule directly and gives short, clear examples. Daily lessons are quicker to start: Start Today's Lesson now sits at the top of the preview on iPhone and iPad, and beside Close on Mac. After you answer, Next Question appears where Skip was. On Apple TV, the remote moves straight to Next Question after you answer in a drill or a daily lesson. On Mac, every drill sheet uses the lesson's button layout, and the lesson sheet keeps a steady size. This version also fixes a crash in the Apple Watch complications and stops Lookup showing No Results before a search finishes. The voice banner scrolls with the Vocabulary list, Question Words open their words again, and several cut-off labels now show in full. On iPhone, the accent keys wrap onto a second row so every key stays visible.

You can now rename your own vocabulary sections. Your words and your progress stay with the section. Learn can teach the phrase sections, like Basic Phrases or Visiting Lisbon, and conjugation questions now show the person, mood and tense as separate labelled tags. Adding a word from search now saves the meaning you picked. Verbs that share their spelling with a noun, like poder and comer, were saved as nouns. On Apple TV, Learn is laid out for the remote: Today's Lesson starts with one press, and going back inside a grammar topic returns to the grammar menu. This version also fixes a shared link that could be lost behind the age check on first launch, suggestion taps on iPad, and the Explanation popover on iPhone.

Verb practice and the Verb Conjugation pages now show what each form means in English, so ajudavas reads "you used to help". An Explanation button says when Portuguese uses that tense or mood. You can add your own words to the built-in lists, share a list that has your words in it, and share a flashcard deck with a link. Typing portugues instead of português now counts as correct and shows in yellow with the correct spelling. Typed answers also ignore capitals and extra spaces. Every graded answer anywhere in the app now counts toward your streak, and a word that shares its spelling with another now lists its other meanings. A new Speak Words Automatically setting reads each new flashcard or drill word aloud. Learn's daily Mix now has five steps, from Grammar Only to Vocabulary Only, and the rule cards are rewritten for someone meeting Portuguese for the first time. The app opens faster, and you now see a banner when the developer replies to your feedback. This version also fixes many smaller issues, including gender badges on custom words, VoiceOver labels, and resuming a lesson where you left off.

Learn now introduces each tense with its regular forms before adding its irregular forms and later tenses. When you complete the grammar included in your chosen level, Learn offers the next level and keeps all of your existing vocabulary. The imperative is now taught and drilled in Learn, right after the present subjunctive it is built from. On Mac, switching to Translate Text no longer changes the size of the app window.

Grammar now explains why a form is what it is, rather than only showing you the form, and the verb-form matrix is written out cell by cell in teaching order with a rule for each one. The app opens somewhere useful for a new learner, every tab and window keeps its own place, and lists sort the way Portuguese sorts. A large conjugation accuracy pass: vowel-stem verbs, e-raising verbs and the -uzir family now conjugate by rule, compounds of pôr get a full paradigm, and chegue and fique are spelled properly. Ninety-five verbs now match the reference, and around a hundred and twenty words were re-tagged to the right part of speech. Faster start-up, and faster answers in a Daily Lesson.

Learn now varies the kind of exercise through a lesson, rather than asking the same kind of question several times in a row. Grammar in Learn takes one verb form at a time and shows you the rule for that form before the drill. Fixed a daily lesson that could get stuck with nothing to tap when there were too few words left to build a multiple-choice question. Choosing a voice now tells you that Portuguese appears twice in the system voice list, so you can pick the European voice rather than the Brazilian one.

This release adds Translate Text, a new tool in the Reference menu. Type or paste English or Portuguese into either pane, and translate it the other way with a single tap, for anything the dictionary doesn't cover. You'll also get a heads-up right inside the app whenever a newer version is available on the App Store, with a button to update in a single tap.

Learn is our new daily study companion. Each day it builds a short lesson of new vocabulary and grammar, blended with review, sized to a pace you pick, with an optional daily reminder to keep your streak going. Lookup brings the dictionary and the conjugator together. Search any word or verb and you get one complete entry: its meaning, its word family, real example sentences, and, for verbs, the full conjugation table, all on one screen. Share a word or phrase with anyone as a link. Reflexive and pronominal verbs are now fully supported: they conjugate with the right pronoun for each person, with a Grammar topic explaining how they work and a practice drill of their own. Also in this release: A one-time age check reveals potentially vulgar or offensive definitions for anyone 16 or older. Open an inflected or agreement form and it now tells you which word it is a form of, with that base word one tap away, instead of repeating the base word's full definition. Searching a word that is not a verb in Lookup now points you to its dictionary entry, instead of building a conjugation for a word that has none. However you reach a word, from your vocabulary or by tapping it inside another entry, you now get the same complete entry as the dictionary. The steps for installing a better Portuguese voice now point to the current Read and Speak location in Settings, and the region name shows correctly.

Version 2.3.0 turns the dictionary into a browsable web of words: tap any related word, synonym, or antonym to jump straight to its full entry, and look up any word inside an example sentence without losing your place. Words now show where they come from, breaking each one down into the parts it is built from. Nouns and adjectives show full Forms tables covering every gender and number, and there are new grammar topics for the subjunctive, fused prepositions, pronoun placement, and the progressive. Read-aloud now prefers the highest quality European Portuguese voices you have installed.
