WHY ON-DEVICE MATTERS
Speech recognition runs on your iPhone wherever the device and the chosen language support it, and in that case the audio is not uploaded. If you add your own API key in Settings, the recording is sent to that transcription service instead. On a device with Apple Intelligence the summary is written on the phone as well; without it, the app assembles a draft from your marks and the transcript. AI minutes are free up to five a month; recording and transcription are unlimited.
