VitalTiles
Steps, sleep and heart rate
Free · In‑App Purchases
New: Siri, a Control Center button, your workouts of the week, and counting in pushes if you use a wheelchair. Two weeks free, no payment details.
VitalTiles puts health data from Apple Health on your Apple Watch as a complication — including the metrics Apple provides no complication for: walking speed, walking steadiness, heart rate recovery, respiratory rate, VO₂ max, wrist temperature, environmental sound and thirty others.
On your phone you open a dashboard: your step goal at the top, what matters today below it, and four topics to drill into.
Walking — steps, distance, pace, step length, walking steadiness
Sleep — duration, deep and REM sleep, respiratory rate, blood oxygen, wrist temperature
Heart — resting heart rate, HRV, VO₂ max, heart rate recovery, blood pressure
Environment — daylight, environmental sound, UV index, falls
Six complications, in every shape your watch face supports:
• Health metric — choose which value you want to see
• Goals — three daily goals as rings
• Streak — how many days in a row you met your step goal
• Your energy — how you are doing compared with your own average
• Coach — what matters today
• Needs attention — automatically shows the metric that stands out
On your home screen there are widgets too, up to a tile where movement, sleep and heart run through your week together. In Messages you share your steps in a single tap. Ask Siri for your reading, or put your steps in Control Center.
If you use a wheelchair, VitalTiles counts pushes and wheelchair distance instead of steps — just as Apple Health does.
A step goal that fits you
The 10,000 steps you see everywhere came from a product, not from research: a 1965 Japanese pedometer called the "manpo-kei", literally 10,000-step meter. Recent research shows most of the health benefit is already reached around 7,000 steps. VitalTiles works out a goal based on your age and your current average, and explains where it comes from — citing the research it is based on.
Associations from your own measurements
After two weeks of wear, the app compares your active days with your quiet days and reports what that does to your sleep and heart rate. Only when the difference is large enough to mean something. Better to report nothing than to present a coincidence as an insight.
A report for your doctor
A PDF with your name, date of birth, the measurement period, how many data points there are per value, and where the numbers come from — including what a consumer watch can and cannot do. Without interpretation: that is a doctor's work.
Thirty-five metrics, explained
Every number comes with what it means, what is typical for your age, and what that is based on. No figures without context.
What the app does not do
• No ads, not even in the free version
• At most one notification a day, and never to nudge you
• Your health data stays on your device; no account, no analytics service
• No account, no sign-in
Free and Plus
Free forever: all watch face complications, your daily numbers in the app, the step goal, the health signals, and one month of trend history.
With Plus: the widgets on your Home Screen, associations from your own data, trends over a year, the doctor's report, the build-up program, working out what moving more would gain you, and notifications.
You get two weeks of full access without payment details. Then you decide.
Not a medical device. VitalTiles makes no diagnosis and replaces no examination. If you have symptoms, contact your doctor.

Ratings & Reviews
- This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
New in this version:
• The app now genuinely speaks English. Previously the buttons were translated but the content was not: the tips, the explanation behind every metric, the coach and the insights all stayed Dutch. Over a thousand texts have now been translated.
• Siri. Ask for today's reading, how you are doing, or what matters now — without opening the app.
• A Control Center button with today's steps, where the fill of the button shows your progress towards your goal. iOS 18 and later.
• The widgets now know when they matter. In the Smart Stack, VitalTiles comes forward when you are close to your goal and the day is running out, in the morning for your sleep figures, and at the top when there is a health signal.
• Workouts. If you cycle, swim or lift, you saw little of it: that effort was hidden inside exercise minutes. One card under movement adds up this week's workouts by type, with the WHO's 150 minutes a week as a reference point.
• Wheelchair. If you use a wheelchair, VitalTiles now counts pushes and wheelchair distance instead of steps — just as Health does. Previously it showed zero steps every day. Goal advice is deliberately withheld there: the research behind it is about steps, and no such figures exist for pushes.
• The doctor's report can now run from your previous appointment instead of over a round month or three. That is usually exactly the window a doctor asks about.
Improved:
• The Home Screen widget could stay empty. It now cuts off the fetch itself and falls back to the last known reading. That reading was also being wiped by a failed attempt — that is fixed too.
• The tile now stays filled. If Health has nothing for today yet — just after midnight, or when the fetch fails — the last figures remain, labelled "yesterday" or with the date. Previously you got a dash.
• The app could wrongly assume it had already asked for Health access, and then never ask again. This could happen after restoring from a backup: the app would not even appear under apps in Health, and everything stayed empty. It now asks Health itself.
• The widget and the iMessage app asked for Health access with the wrong reason — they mentioned the watch face while they read for your Home Screen and for Messages.
• The widgets on your Home Screen belong to Plus. That was already the case, but it was stated nowhere — the app even promised the opposite. It is now in the right places. If a newer version is waiting, a locked tile says so first: sometimes updating is the fix, not a subscription.
