This is a metronome for people who practice every day. Set the tempo with your thumb, press BEGIN, and every minute you play is logged privately on your phone. Most metronomes only keep a tempo. This one accelerates gradually while you play, and remembers every minute you practice. Accelerating Metronome is a practice instrument, built by a working musician in Seattle over forty years of daily practice. This is not what a product committee would have asked for. THE METRONOME A rotary dial you drag with your thumb, the way a hardware tempo wheel works. 40 to 232 BPM across the traditional 42 settings. Fine at slow tempos where small changes matter, coarser at fast ones where they do not. Three voices: a woodblock that cuts through loud instruments, a pitched bar chime that sits under quiet playing, and a cowbell that plows through anything. Set the beats to a bar and the downbeat takes a voice of its own. A tuning reference from 440 to 445, and reference pitches for Standard and New Standard tuning. TAP TEMPO Tap the knot in the dial in time, and the tempo changes to what you tap. THE ACCELERATOR Choose a beginning tempo, a target, and how long you want to practice. It climbs on its own, in steps, so you invest your time playing rather than reaching for the dial. It tells you what is coming: the next tempo, how many bars away it is, and how long is left. When it reaches the target it holds there and keeps going, and that extra time is counted separately as play time. Practice and playing are not the same thing. And are not counted as if they were. Save and name your own Custom Ramps. PEAK SPEED Mark the tempo where you hit a wall and you have a record that grows. We graph your peak speeds so you can see your progress. SPIN THE METRONOME Press this and let the Universe choose a tempo for you. Practicing only at the tempos you like is how blind spots appear. And this is the cure. Spin the Metronome before a Group Rehearsal to bring everyone into listening and warming up together beginning with a cue from the Muse. YOUR PRACTICE, VISUALIZED OVER TIME Every session is documented: when, how long, which tempos, and what you were working on. Name your own categories and each one takes a color. The calendar shows a month at a glance, one circle per day, filling clockwise. A quarter turn for every fifteen minutes, gold and a number after you have completed a full hour of practice. A Streak counts the days in a row you practiced, because momentum may motivate you to pick up the instrument on an evening you had decided not to. And practice more than an hour every day from Sunday to Saturday and the whole week is celebrated in gold. All seven days have to surpass an hour. The value is in consistency rather than celebrating any single day: where the gaps fall, which day of the week you always lose, whether the good stretch you remember was three weeks or nine days. AUDIO THAT MIXES The click plays over (or under) your music, a podcast, or a backing track without interrupting them. The iPhone silent switch does not mute it. It keeps going when you switch apps or the screen locks, and so does the Accelerator. The beats sit on the audio hardware's clock rather than on a timer, so nothing drifts while you are not looking. Optional haptics help you feel the beat through the phone. The screen stays awake while it plays. One setting doubles the click volume. YOURS, AND PRIVATE No account, no login, no shared analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no subscription. You buy it once. Your practice history is on your phone and nothing is sent anywhere. You can back it up to your own Files or iCloud Drive whenever you like, in a plain file you can read. It works entirely offline, always. You can import it onto a new device. Portrait or landscape. 1,163 quotes on practice and music appear between sessions, from Steve Ball, from Guitar Craft, and from Steve Turnidge. A free web version with reduced features runs in any browser at steveball.com/metronome. The app is a premium way to experience a rich practice tool as a native app. This is accelerating practice you can finally visualize over time.

VARIATIONS The Accelerating Metronome now includes ways to change the sound and feel of what you hear while you practice. The Dial sets the tempo. Variations give you a set of additional ways to make the Metronome sound and feel more MUSICAL. PULSE DIVISION gives you polyrhythms: up to three at a time, each with its own count from 2 to 10. You can set the sound and volume for each. SWING gradually transforms a metronomic pulse to Swing that you can set to every whole % from 50 to 75, with five industry standard feels marked where they fall. BEAT PLACEMENT moves the click off the downbeat and gives you three options for variety. GAPS give you a way to take Beats away, or whole bars so there is more 'space' in what you're practicing to. All of the Variations work on top of the Metronome BPM. They also play on top of the Accelerator and Interval Training, and any combination can be saved as a Custom Variation. VARIATIONS: PEDAL TONE Practice with evolving harmonic drones or rhythmic pulses on top of your metronome Beat, so you improvise over surprising and ever evolving accompaniments. Cello, Synth and Flute sound continuously. Pulse, Punk, Bells, Vibes, Piano and Grunge are struck on the Beat. An integrated Sequencer moves the Pedal Tone through harmonic patterns: fifths, whole tones, diminished, augmented, chromatic, or all twelve notes once. Set how often the note changes, how often the voice changes, and how often the Sequencer moves. VARIATIONS ROULETTE You can also hit the "Variations Roulette" button at the top of the Variations "drawer" to let the Universe deliver a spontaneous set of chosen Variations to practice with. Each Roulette category row has an ON/OFF switch on the right so you can audition and adjust and customize what the Roulette wheel delivered. The wheel at the top has an integrated level meter. INTERVAL TRAINING This is a new form of Ramp with its own Button and drawer. It enables three consecutive climbs from a slow tempo up to a fast one and back down again over a time you set. It is the Accelerator with three hills in it rather than one, so everything in that panel works exactly the way it already does: the presets, your own saved ones, the picture of the Ramp, the countdown, Restart and the practice Category. Three presets to begin with, and you can change the numbers and save your own. The Accelerator and Interval Training each have their own 'drawer', each keeping its own tempos, duration and preset. Both can be open at once, but only one can be active at a time. RAMP TIMING The Accelerator and Interval Training can now execute a Ramp in two ways. EQUAL BEATS provides the same number of beats at every tempo, so a slow step lasts longer than a fast one. This is how the Accelerator has always worked, and it is still the default. EQUAL TIME gives the same amount of time at every BPM, so every step lasts the same and the climb rises in a straight line. Thanks to David Snyder for asking for this. Every Ramp image in the app shows which one is on. The height of a bar is the tempo and the width is how long that step lasts, so in Equal Beats the slow bars are wide and the fast ones thin, and in Equal Time they are all the same. ONE TUNING REFERENCE FOR THE WHOLE APP The PITCH row on the metronome body sets the standard pitch for the whole app. Tap 432 or 440 or any of the others and every Pedal Tone retunes to it, including one that is sounding at the time, and the Tuner uses it too. One tap sets the standard, a double tap plays the chosen A. SPANISH, THROUGHOUT The AM App and the whole FAQ are in Spanish. Switch it ON in Settings. ALSO The FAQ now has 185 questions and a Search box that stays with you as you scroll. Type a word and the page narrows to the answers that mention it. Interface sounds have their own level, separate from the Beat. Landscape fixes throughout. And a long list of fixes, most of them found by the people testing this. Thank you.
