JigRipper
Identify Irish tunes, live
$6.99 · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
JigRipper listens to live Irish traditional music and tells you what tune is being played — while it's still being played. No recording uploads, no network needed: everything runs on your device. It continues to work when your device is locked, and integrates with your watch!
WHAT IT DOES
• Live tune identification from a repertoire of over 22,000 traditional tunes
• Renders sheet music for every tune, engraved by JigRipper's own notation engine
• Real-time "tune river" visualizes the session as it flows past
• A live cursor that follows the player through the score, bar by bar
• Save sets, tunes, and entire sessions for recall later
• Works entirely offline
FOR PLAYERS
• Build and browse sets — the tunes you actually play, in the order you play them
• Analyze recordings — import an audio file and get a deep stereo analysis
• Apple Watch companion — start listening from your wrist, with Live Activities on the lock screen
UNDER THE HOOD
JigRipper's recognition models were trained specifically on Irish traditional music — jigs, reels, hornpipes, polkas, slides, waltzes and more — and its notation engine was built from scratch for the way trad tunes are actually written and read.
Tune metadata derived from TheSession.org, used with permission under the Open Database License (ODbL) v1.0.
TRY IT FIRST
A free browser version runs at jigripper.com — no install, no account. It runs the same JigRipper neural models, so you can see it work before you buy.
The app adds what a browser can't: it keeps listening while your screen is locked, works with no Internet connection at all, and puts the current tune on your Apple Watch.
- Haptics: Watch buzzes on tune change (option).
- Performance Improvements
- Session Editor: Save sets heard from a session to your library. Edit the tune river to fix or delete wrong IDs. Improved export formatting.
- Set Assistant: Select a saved set before playing and JigRipper will anticipate the music you need next.
- Sheet Music: View and/or copy any tune's ABC to clipboard. Automatically open new tune on thesession.org on tune lock (option).
