New Today tab: what's on around Long Island right now, later today and tonight, by town and by vibe, with directions, add to calendar and Save to My weekend. The news tab is now called News. Turn on alerts when you first open the app, so you hear about new stories.

Listen to the news. Every story now has a Listen button under the byline that reads the article aloud, so you can catch up on Long Island while you drive, cook or walk. Free for signed-in members.

New: Make it yours. Your Weekend: every event from Friday to Sunday, sorted for your towns and what you like. Save the ones you want and add the whole plan to your calendar. Follow your town: follow the places you live and love, and their stories lead your Today page. Readers' Choice: nominate your favorite Long Island businesses and vote for the best. Saving needs a free account.

Made for iPhone Duo. Unfold it and the front page opens up into a grid of stories with the lead set beside its photograph, and every article reads in a comfortable column. Folded, it is the app you know.

Small fixes and improvements.

A better fit on iPad and Mac: every section now sits in the sidebar, the selected section is easy to see in dark mode, and the masthead lines up with the stories beneath it.

A refreshed app icon: the Long Island Wave lighthouse in the Wave gradient, on a deep near-black tile.

Long Island Wave is now on iPad, with a sidebar of sections, a grid of stories and a comfortable reading column. A new, flatter app icon. Delete account now sits at the bottom of the account sheet.

New: Towns. Pick your village to see its stories, what's on nearby and the local weather, with 26 towns across Nassau, Suffolk and the East End, now right in the tab bar. Headlines no longer cut off. The Apple Watch app refreshes every time you open it, and you can pull down to refresh the front page.

A fresh new look to match longislandwave.com: a new typeface, new colors and a new icon, with a light or dark look that follows your phone. - Each section has its own color, so News, Business, Food & Drink and the rest are easy to tell apart - Stories, events and sections share one clean navigation bar - "More in" stories and links inside articles now open the story - Share an event or add it to your calendar in one tap - New: Long Island Wave on Apple Watch, opening to the featured story

Sponsored cards now refresh: pull down on the feed, or come back to the app, and you get a fresh set instead of the same few repeating. Stories open the way they do in print and on the website, with a drop cap on the first paragraph. Photos and sponsored images load more reliably on a weak signal.
