Plan golden hour, sunsets and Milky Way shoots with Shot Score, sun and moon paths, AR, terrain-aware horizons and camera settings. Free to start.
Lightpath is a photo-planning app for people getting serious about photography. It answers the questions you actually ask — is the light good right now, where will the sun set, when can I see the Milky Way, what settings do I use — in plain language, with the maths done for you.
SHOT SCORE
One 0–100 read of conditions at your spot: quality of light, cloud cover, moon brightness and air clarity, plus the best window in the next 24 hours.
LIGHT TIMELINE
Sun, moon, Milky Way core, every twilight phase and hourly cloud cover on one 24-hour strip. Drag along it and watch positions update.
PLANNER
Your spot on the map with sun, moon and Milky Way directions drawn for any date and time. Golden hour, blue hour, moonrise, core window — all listed.
TERRAIN HORIZON
Load the real skyline around your spot from elevation data. Sunrise becomes "clears the ridge" and sunset "behind the ridge" — in the Planner, on Today, in the trip planner and drawn in AR.
SKY COLOUR FORECAST
Every sunset and sunrise rated Vivid, Good, Muted or Dull from the cloud layers, visibility, humidity and air — with the reason.
AR SKY VIEW & AR CAPTURE
Point the phone at the scene and see where the sun, moon and Milky Way will be. Photograph or record the view with the markers burned in.
SHOOT THIS ON IPHONE
Every plan, and the Exposure, Stars and Depth of field tools, has a Shoot button. Lightpath translates the settings to the phone's fixed aperture, sets ISO and shutter, and captures — RAW where supported, video too. If your iPhone can't do the shot, it says so.
PLANS, PHOTO JOURNAL & PLAN LINKS
Save the whole plan — place, time, lens, exposure — as a card. Attach the shots you took and compare planned vs shot. Share a link that opens straight into a friend's planner.
ECLIPSE PLANNER
Every eclipse through 2030 with contact times in your zone, where the moon or sun will be over your spot, and exposure by phase.
TRIP PLANNER
Several spots over several days: one card per day with sunrise, sunset, golden hour, the Milky Way window and the moon at every spot.
FIND & RETURN ALERTS
Give it a bearing and it lists every date the sun or moon lands there. Saved an alignment? Lightpath reminds you the evening before it comes round again.
FORECAST AGREEMENT
Cloud cover from Apple Weather next to ECMWF, GFS and ICON, with a plain verdict on whether the models agree.
GUIDES
Ten built-in field guides, each with its sources.
TOOLS
Exposure · Depth of field & hyperfocal · Sun & moon calendar · Time-lapse and day-to-night ramps · Stars (NPF) · Field of view · Sky events · Lock Screen and Home Screen widgets.
