Prayer times, the adhan, the Qibla, a Quran that's a pleasure to read, even lessons for learning to recite it: it's all in Nur. Free, with no ads. If you want, Nur can also lock social media and games on your phone for a while at each prayer time.
PRAYER Prayer times for where you are, calculated with ISNA, Muslim World League, Kemenag, or another method. Choose the adhan from Makkah or Madinah, or just a silent notification. After you pray, mark it right from the notification. You also get a Qibla compass, a map of nearby mosques, Fajr and Tahajjud alarms, and a travel mode for combining and shortening prayers.
PRAYER LOCK When a prayer time begins, your other apps lock, either all of them or only the ones you pick. They open again when you tap "I've prayed," or on their own after 15 to 60 minutes, whichever you set. Jumu'ah mode keeps the lock on through the khutbah. On days you're excused or traveling, the lock eases up. You can also set it up on your child's iPhone through Family Sharing, with the settings protected by a parent PIN.
QURAN Read page by page, just like the 15-line Madinah mushaf, or verse by verse. Add the Saheeh International translation, word-by-word meanings, transliteration, color-coded tajweed, and tafsir. Recitations you've downloaded keep playing without internet. With some reciters, each word lights up as it's recited. Set a daily goal or make a khatam plan. Save the ayahs you love and share them as an image or video, with your own photo in the background if you like.
WRITE THE QURAN Write out the mushaf by hand, word by word, with Apple Pencil or your finger. Each word is checked as you write, down to the harakat and the dots. If you're memorizing, fade the guide text a little at a time until you're writing from memory. Save your pages as a PDF or a time-lapse video.
MEMORIZATION AND LEARNING TO READ Memorize a little at a time, and Nur reminds you when it's time to revise. When you recite from memory to Nur, any words you skip are marked. For beginners, kids included, there are Nur's 14 steps and the Iqro' books 1–6, plus tajweed lessons. The automatic feedback can be wrong and doesn't replace a Quran teacher.
KHATAM AND CLASSES Finish the Quran together with your family or your mosque, one juz per person, with daily reminders and the khatam dua. Quran teachers can set up a class, give assignments, keep track of what each student recites, and see how every student is doing.
DHIKR AND DUA The tasbih walks you through the dhikr after prayer and moves straight on to the next one as soon as you finish. There are also 130 duas and dhikr from Hisnul Muslim, plus a fasting log, a Ramadan timetable, and the Hijri calendar.
THEMES Pick from 20 themes, like Batik, Little Santri for kids, or Pitch Black for nighttime. The colors carry through every screen, widgets included, and the app icon can change to match.
CARPLAY, WIDGETS, AND IPAD With CarPlay, listen to recitation or revise your memorization on the road. Put Nur widgets on your Home Screen or Lock Screen, and an "I've prayed" button in Control Center. On iPad, the mushaf shows two pages side by side.
PRIVACY Nur doesn't track you. Your recitation is checked right on your iPhone or iPad, and the recording is never uploaded. You don't need an account. If you sign in with Apple or Google, your records are saved and you can pick them up again on another iPhone or iPad.
Nur is available in English, Indonesian, and Arabic.
