The Klappið app is an official Public transportation payment app, made for Strætó Iceland (the Administrative body for public transportation in the capital area of Iceland). The purpose of the app is to provide payment possibilities of various sorts in public transportation, including single tickets and period passes (such as monthly or yearly passes) for the citizens and guests of Reykjavík. The user can, in the first phase, sign on, register a payment method, purchase a travel media and confirm the purchase by validation in the buses of Strætó.

Poorly programmed

This app is poorly written. I lead a group 30 or so US visitors trying to use Strætó. Only 3/4 of the group can receive the text message required for linking a phone númer to the app. Anonymous login can only be linked to your account on the Klappið website if you haven't already made that account! If that account already exists it throws a runtime error. Also be sure you don't accidentally type in the wrong email address either. That appears to be a non-recoverable problem. Even reinstalling the app doesn't fix the fact that it insists it has already sent you an email. The programmers haven't included the option to resend or change the address at that juncture. Not impressed.

Inaccurate real-time updates, useless login system

If you didn't need to buy tickets on this app it would never get used. For an app that has realtime location and timetable updates, you would expect accuracy to the the first priority. Instead, the timetables on the app and estimates it provides for bus locations are not even consistent. And in some cases don’t even align with the buses actual schedule. This can be weighed out of your favor when the timetable on the app says 8:35, the trip planner says 8:30, and the schedule at the bustop says 8:25, meaning if you follow the app, you miss your bus.

Continual login errors notwithstanding, I will not be planning my bus trips with this app in the future.

Terrible app!

This app is nearly useless. Frequently won’t load purchased tickets or just spins the waiting timer. Often loaded tickets don’t scan on the bus. I just had a driver tell me my ticket wasn’t valid even though it had an hour+ time left, which I showed him. He spun his reader around and said, “it’s not valid! But another ticket!” Very rudely I must add. I said I had minutes before purchased it, why would I buy another? I tried to scan it again and it finally worked. I showed him the 1 star rating! First rude person I’ve encountered in Iceland.
