Note: Livescribe+ is designed to be used with the Aegir and Livescribe 3 smartpens from Livescribe.

Livescribe+ pairs with your Livescribe 3 or Aegir smartpen to instantly sync everything you write on paper directly onto your iPhone or iPad. Your notes become more useful, more quickly when they’re organized, tagged, searchable, and converted to text.
Notes, sketches, diagrams and drawings created with your Livescribe 3 or Aegir smartpen show up instantly in Livescribe+.

Access your notes in 3 different views to get more out of them: (1) Page View shows your notebooks and pages exactly as they were written. (2) Feed View organizes your notes into smaller, actionable snippets sorted in a timeline. (3) Pencast View allows you to play back audio recordings synced to your notes so you can hear what was said exactly when you were writing.

Convert your handwritten notes into text to transform them into tasks, reminders, calendar events, new contacts and more. Import shared pages or snippets into Adobe Illustrator or any other vector drawing app, and work directly with your own hand-drawn artwork. Paper-to-vector path is an industry first!

Create pencasts and add photos and typed memos directly in Livescribe+ to add more depth and context to your written notes. Save your pencasts as video and play them back anywhere, or use iMovie or any other video editor to easily create great lectures and presentations.

Tag your notes in Feed view to create Collections that sort all your tagged content together.

Share PDFs of your notes, pictures and pencasts through Mail, Messages, AirDrop, Evernote, OneNote, Dropbox, and more.

Core Functionality is Okay, But Poor Usability and Numerous Minor Bugs

I have a cognitive disability and use the Livescribe Symphony pen to record and take notes during lecture. It’s difficult to get the pen to pair with the app in the first place, and it seems random whether or not the app detects the pen. When it does pair, it asks me to register the pen, despite the fact that I’ve gone through the registration screen multiple times in the past.

The pen needs a better desktop app; I’d prefer simply to use it with my laptop, since using my phone to record rapidly drains its battery and storing lengthy audio recordings on the phone consumes its already limited storage. I don’t understand why the desktop app doesn’t offer the same functionality.

The PDFs the app generates are decent quality, but when I export a pencast as a MOV, pen strokes pop in and out of existence in the video, and the resolution flips between low-res and (relatively) high-res periodically (about once per second), which is irritating.

The whole thing feels more like a beta than a finished product.

App crashing and freezing

Moving away from having the recording device built into the smart pen was the end of the viability of this product as a business tool. The app is unreliable and inflexible. It crashes during playback at least twice during an hour-long recording. It freezes every time I try to access my pencasts through the pencast menu item, so I have to go through my entire notebook to find the one I want. There’s no way to edit a pencast audio recording directly in the app, either. There’s also no option to skip ahead or back 10-15 seconds during playback in the app.
I wish I hadn’t used my Echo to death, or I wish I was able to find a working one from a real seller. I replaced it with a Livescribe 3, and use it as one of my accommodations at work. But it’s just too unreliable. I’m starting to shop around for a product to replace it.

Update: So, I just read more of the reviews, and the app has been TERRIBLE for ALMOST A DECADE!!!!!! Hey, Livescribe! Stop putting out new products until you fix the existing ones!!!!!!!

BeamerDude ,

What are you guys doing!??

Seriously guys, having to close and re-open the app just to get it to synchronize with the Livescribe pen is ridiculous. And, trying to use the back arrow once you’re in a journal and having nothing happen for some indeterminate amount of time is unacceptable. What have you been working on for the past year? Evidently, not this app!!! Horrible!!!
