Entities that may still have access to your Equifax credit report include: companies like Equifax Consumer Services LLC, which provide you with access to your credit report or credit score, or monitor your credit report as part of a subscription or similar service; companies that provide you with a copy of your credit report or credit score, upon your request; federal, state and local government agencies and courts in certain circumstances; companies using the information in connection with the underwriting of insurance, or for employment, tenant or background screening purposes; companies that have a current account or relationship with you, and collection agencies acting on behalf of those whom you owe; companies that authenticate a consumer's identity for purposes other than granting credit, or for investigating or preventing actual or potential fraud; and companies that wish to make pre-approved offers of credit or insurance to you. The best of the 3 (still terrible)

The app is only an account creation page and a slider, yet somehow has more bugs than the other 2 credit agencies combined. Captcha doesn’t appear (keep hitting continue until the check expires and you have to do it again, then it will work). After account creation it said there’s an account issue and I had to call them (I didn’t, I closed the app and opened it again and it worked). It sent like 10 emails saying credit unlocked upon logging in for the first time ( I didn’t touch the slider at all yet). I did eventually touch the slider, and got an email saying my credit was frozen. Despite all the bugs in their app, equifax is the only credit agency that provided a straightforward path to locking my credit report (probably to restore public trust due to their previous data leaks). The other ones hide the free option behind 5 pages of paid subscription offers to do the same thing. So congrats for being the least bad I guess? Still awful and should be shut down.

Deliberate fail

There is really no reason this app should not work flawlessly, but it fails in the most basic way. I set up my account on the Equifax website and froze my credit. Then I downloaded this app so I could unfreeze on the go. The app does not recognize my user name and password that I set up 10 minutes ago. And three incorrect attempts lock me out of my account. I’m sure the developer will respond to this with “hey buddy, give us a call so we can fix this.” Why should I devote my time to fixing your screwed up app? Look at every review for the last year. They all say this problem is persistent. Clearly Equifax doesn’t want people freezing their credit or having any control over their information because it messes with their business model. They should have been put out of business when they allowed the sensitive personal credit information of half the country(!) to be hacked. So forget this app. I’m leaving my credit frozen and if any company uses Equifax I simply won’t give them my business until they switch credit information suppliers.

Update: of course Equifax has separate login credentials for its app and website, that’s the most needlessly complicated possible approach so that’s naturally what Equifax went with. Why in the world would you want your Equifax account time be universally accepted across all platforms? Ease of use? Convenience?

Developer Response ,

We’re sorry to hear that. Lock&Alert and Equifax.com accounts are different, so, your login credentials may be different. If you’re still having problems, drop us an email at lockandalert@equifax.com so we can look into it. Include your app store handle, a copy of your app store review and the email you used to set up your Lock & Alert account.

I Agree With The Others — UPDATE!!

Seeing that the app had been updated, I downloaded it thinking this newest version would work. Unfortunately, it does not. I encountered the exact same log-in issue. How is it that FICO, Experian and Transunion not to mention Credit Sesame, Credit Karma and Nerd Wallet can but Equifax, you can not? This app feels to be a loss cause and that is very disappointing.

Original Review:

Sadly, I have to agree with the other disappointed reviewers. I prefer to use apps vs websites but I decided to register on the website and once confirmed I signed in and looked for a Download Our App or Open in App button but there wasn’t one on the website. I downloaded the app anyway and attempted to sign in but got the same error message three times: the email address and/or password didn’t match, which is impossible seeing how I had literally just opened my account not five (5) minutes earlier. The majority of reviews here are NOT good at all and having experienced the same, I understand their frustration. This is a bad look Equifax but I believe in giving second chances so I’m going wait for a bit, at least through the trial period, and hope the Developers are working diligently to fix the log-in issue and any others that exist. Hopefully these bugs will be squashed soon!!!
