This whole system is garbage from the app to the product. Not only does it take a long time for the app to communicate with the hardware but you have to leave the app open and make sure the changes you made are updated before closing the app or the changes will not be made in the background.
This may not sound like a big deal but let me paint the picture...
You awake at 2am out of a deep sleep feeling a little overheated so instead of getting up to turn down the ac manually you decided to use your expensive LUX to quickly turn down the ac and get back to sleep for your last few hours of rest. You open your app, adjust the ac and lay back down. 45 min later your still restless and overheated noticing that nothing has change; so you once again go to your app and notice that no settings have been updated. So you once again adjust the temperature and watch to make sure the app updates which takes what feels like an eternity in the midst of trying to prepare your mind to return to sleep. At this point you’ve lost a complete hour of sleep when you realize you could’ve taken 1 minute to get up and adjusted the temperature manually but instead you put your trust in the LUX equipment you paid for but are instead let down by cheap product development and the feeling that you’ve been robbed of your time and money through what seems to be more of a novelty products and no foreseeable fixes to come.
It retrieves settings as soon as you open it. I have it on high performance mode. I bought a 12 pack of lithiums for it. Why can’t it stay connected for another minute to apply my temperature change? Like someone else said it is easier to get up and change it yourself.
So you can’t do simple things like inform me that the system is currently cooling or heating? What does “auto” mean? I have to look in my schedule to remember what it is set to?
You can’t tell me what the current set point is?
What is the meaning of “last connected”? When I change the temperature I want it to connect NOW. Not when you feel like it or when your garbage servers finally decide to. Stupid joke. I am home and I want cooling now. Not 10 minutes from now.
You can’t let me tell the app to manually connect now?
What’s the point of it saying it contacted my thermostat 3 minutes ago? I just changed the temperature - contact it now. This much is obvious. I have it on high performance. Which I take it to mean it better connect when I set a temperature.
Maybe you have slow servers?
Is this stupid internet connection necessary? What happens when you go out of business? All your thermostat should become paperweights? Can’t you design this to work without your servers? Let it connect directly to the thermostat. Involving your stupid slow, useless servers is pointless. It’s just a risk. Maybe when i’m outside my home invoke your server, if not just connect directly.
The Geo Lux was easy to set up. The app some potential with improvements but navigates great.
So far it seems to be all good. The thermostats, I ordered two, from mass save, were ten bucks a piece, so why not give it a shot. These were my first WiFi thermos. The set up was incredibly easy and fast. Now onto this App. I like the Lux app because it is really easy to navigate and I love the stats that are really useful when fine tuning your temperature sweet spots. I would like to see improvement in stats where I can look at month vs the same month last year and the potential dollars saved based on your providers rate. For those that are complaining about short batteries life, there are three settings with in the app for adjusting the responsiveness of communication between the app and the thermostat. It will increase or decrease the frequency in which the device communicate via the network. These modes will determine how long your batteries lasts. Play around with it and let us know. Mine are too new to know just yet.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
