San José 311!

San José 311 is a service request system brought to you by the City of San Jose. The application allows you to submit, track and explore a variety of city service requests. These requests are forwarded through to the relevant city service team to accept, review, update and resolve.

You can submit requests anonymously or sign in with an account. We highly recommend creating an account as you will then gain access to enhanced features and experience a more personalized service.

Service requests can be logged with photos, categorized and placed on a map. You can also search current requests and follow them if you want updates and notifications.

The application contains a detailed Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section to assist you in navigating through our many city services.

Neighborhood Services provides easy and instant access to your street sweeping, waste collection, neighborhood cleanup and water service provider.

Terrible interface issues

The interface appears to have moved to a web-based interface, but there’s no back button or way to return to the app’s main menu in certain cases.

For instance, if I click ‘Affordable Housing’, I am sent to the City of San Jose Housing Portal website within the app. From here there is no way to return to the app’s main menu other than force-quitting the app.

Good Resource

I downloaded this app a few days ago and can say I am satisfied with my experience.

I filed 3 reports regarding pothole repair, landscape cleanup, and illegal dumping and have received quick responses within a span of a few hours. The pothole report was resolved within 24 hours - they filled the pothole down the neighborhood street. The landscaping report was forwarded to the department in charge and the last report is currently in progress.

This is a great way to be involved as a citizen! I hope that other cities, if they haven’t already, establish a similar app to centralized city resources and reporting. If we keep up with paying attention to our surroundings and our reports are ACTIONABLY resolved by our city teams, we can contribute to keeping our areas more crime-free by changing our environment.

App itself can be improved but service has been great!

Update: I've used this app for issue on the road (traffic light outage and dangerous debris on the road), and the response continues to be extremely responsive. My reports were forwarded to the Department of Transportation both times and resolved that day.

I have used this app three times to report illegal dumping and abandoned vehicles. I live in a neighborhood where people often dump large household items on the sidewalk and prior to installing this app, I would just get annoyed with it but didn't report it.

With the three cases I filed, someone came around within 24 hours to collect the dumped items or came and tagged the abandoned vehicle, really quick response you typically wouldn't expect from the city!

I can understand some people's gripe with some parts of the app though--for example, if you want to report a pothole while you're driving, it's a little difficult to do so. There is no location detector, so you'll always have to manually input your location. But, if you can get an approximate address of the location, that should give the city an idea of where the problem is.

Overall, I've had a great experience with this app and will continue to use it!
