Excellent, Easy-to-navigate handheld Bible app

TBH, my personal Bible itself tells a story just from sight alone; and it’s most undoubtedly a love story. Its spine has been fractured many times over the span of many years. My real Bible’s pages are frail and so delicately soft; like a tender elder’s hand. Inside, it looks like Noah’s rainbow or a college student’s highlighted denotations of important messages given to me by the most important teacher I’ve ever had in my whole life. Alas—time passes. The world turns each day and we must adapt and grow. This being said, I would recommend this particular NKJV Bible not only bc I feel its scriptures align very similarly to my “beloved artifact”; but, bc it’s simple to find your way around the site, it has helpful study guides, wonderful elective sermons should you decide to download and reflect upon them, and lastly, the font came pretty large on mine…! An added bonus. Perhaps it was just serendipity—-but—-if you’re like me, you’re already shaking your head & saying to yourself; “No such thing 😇

Olive Tree app for iPad Pro

I actually wanted to give this app a higher rating, because I really love the format and layout, highlighting and note options, and the pop-up access to multiple resources: i.e. Greek/Hebrew lexicons; commentaries; dictionaries; cross references; concordances; study tools; etc. It’s very easy on the eyes, too, in my opinion, and makes reading/study fairly enjoyable. BUT, I really feel that the parallel bible/translation option is really lacking, compared to eSword, which allows top-down listing of essentially unlimited translations/versions for verse-by-verse viewing/comparison, as well as multiple side-by side parallel translation by chapter/verse viewing/comparison, whereas Olive Tree only allows for one parallel version at a time, and it’s not side by side, but in the resource center pop-up option, which makes comparison viewing more difficult than easy, as my eyes have to jump around the screen. However, eSword definitely fails in not allowing footnotes/comments, or pop-up resource access for those multiple translation options (only allowing it for a single selected translation/version in their app’s main window), and unfortunately rather they have a very simplistic and bland user interface, that I personally find not as enjoyable to read. I just wish there were one app that had it all…

Useful Bible App

Updated Fall 2017 I do not enjoy this app as much as I used to. The latest version no longer has the ability to be read in landscape mode, the mode I prefer. Also, Olive Tree is constantly trying to sell more books. I'm constantly getting notifications that are really just advertisements. The latest edition even has a cart at top and center. I just want a few versions of the Bible on my phone, not a whole pastor's library. It's still a useful app, just not as good as it was.Original Review:I have no other app to compare it to, but I enjoy this bible app. My favorite feature is the search feature - it's like having a full concordance in my hand. Also, if I highlight a verse in one version, it's highlighted in all - good for favorite verses. Now if I just highlight a few words, they are only highlighted in that version. Also, I can flip from one version to another and stay at that verse. I can also switch to a commentary and see the comments on the passage I am reading and switch to my atlas and be at the part pertaining to the passage. Very helpful. I still have my old fashioned study bible, but I keep this handy for searches and of course it is with me everywhere I go - and I don't need wi-fi, it's all on my iPod touch. And when I upgraded to an iPhone, it was easy to make the transition with regular cloud backups with Olive Tree. Great Bible app.

Also the trustworthiness of the Company is a necessary value. I have been using this resource since my palm pilot days to give you an example. I have purchased and continue to purchase many volumes of Biblical resources as I grow in studying the scriptures. If the developers did not continue to work on this platform all that would be lost and wasted if the app did not support the latest iOS versions as you upgrade your device to the latest and greatest. There would be no confidence in buying these electronic volumes as opposed to the physical paper bound resources. While nothing can match the durability of a paper bound volume nothing can match the speed of research on an electronic resource as found on Olive Tree.
