If I could give them negative stars I would

I submitted a tip about this girl I knew who was very mentally ill, self harming, and she kept claiming that she got raped on six different occasions like six different times by the same guy which wasn’t true because I was with him for two of the nights that she claimed it happened, I was with him the entire night too so it was a lie. She would lie about big things and cut herself and was very depressed. I submitted a tip and they told me to call 911 or contact a trusted adult. I don’t have a trusted adult that can contact her and I made that very clear. They refused to do anything because she didn’t flat out say “I’m gonna kill myself” or “I’m gonna shoot up the school” or something like that and a few weeks after I submitted the tip she took her own life. Just beg cause and I quote “contact a trusted adult, this is not how the program works.” I gave her full name and school so they can find her. They told me to call 911 but this wasn’t like a 911 emergency. It was gonna turn into one I know but they could’ve done something before and didn’t.

Thank you for your feedback. It might be helpful to understand how OK2SAY tips are triaged.

Tips involving immediate life safety or crimes in progress (e.g., threats of violence) are sent directly to local law enforcement.

Tips that do not involve an immediate threat are sent to school administrators for an appropriate response the very next school day. You mentioned that you provided the full name of the victim and the school.
This key information you provided to OK2SAY would ensure that your tip was shared with the school the next day.

Once the tip information is forwarded to the appropriate responding agency, the school and/or law enforcement agency will investigate the matter. OK2SAY requires an Outcome Report detailing the action taken and the result on each tip.

As the tipster, you may not be aware of all the actions taken by the school/law enforcement.

Useless poser app

First of all I submitted a tip on the website about my friend who was doing drugs and was harming herself from stress and nothing happened so I downloaded the app. I submitted another tip a week ago and nothing has happened either. In the presentation they make it seem like all you have to do is speak up and it’ll be taken care but no one is doing anything. I started reading other reviews and I was definitely seeing a pattern. People were saying how they contacted ok2say and sometimes ok2say would reply saying call 911 or contact someone else who can help your problem. I just don’t understand why there is an app supposed to help students or anybody report a crime or somebody who needs help if their just going to tell you to tell 911 or not respond at all or do anything. And when they reply to these reviews they don’t even address their problems. Teachers tell you to use ok2say but it clearly doesn’t work and kids don’t know another place to go to. If I could give them negative stars I would.

Developer Response ,

If OK2SAY has all the necessary information, our team will forward the tip to the most appropriate responding agency, usually the schools. When the schools receive a confidential tip, they investigate to find a solution. The tipster may be unaware of the school's actions to resolve the issue because disciplinary records are protected by one of the nation's most stringent privacy laws, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The tipster may believe "nothing is happening" when, in fact, the school is dealing with the issue discreetly.

The Presentations Are A Lie

This old man was demanding I send him nudes, of course I didn’t, but i was afraid he would convince other young girls to send. I contacted ok2say and they did nothing.
In the presentations at schools, they make it sound so easy and if you let them know, they will take care of everything and it will be ok, but that is not true. I was told to block him, tell my parents, and call 911. First of all, 911 is for emergencies, like if someone is dying or being hurt. A conversation that happened 2 days ago is not an emergency. Second, I contacted ok2say because I didnt want to tell my parents. And blocking him will do nothing. When I told them I didn’t want to do these things they had a little bit of a rude tone. They then asked if I had his name, phone number, anything, and I said I knew nothing because it was on snapchat, and they responded with, you shouldn’t talk to strangers on the internet.
This was a waste of time, I got no where with this, and this man is still out there preying on young woman.

The goal of OK2SAY is to stop harmful behavior before it occurs. You were very wise to trust your gut and ask for help.

Sexual predators do exist and are a very real threat. They target both boys and girls of all ages. The OK2SAY presentations are designed to empower you to step up and speak out if someone approaches you online to gather personal information, exchange pictures, and/or meet in person. We encourage students to take screenshots and save communications and report it to the platform or service you are using. You should also block the person and file a report with the CyberTipline (https://report.cybertip.org/) the nation’s centralized reporting system for the online exploitation of children.

Finally, we do encourage you to contact local law enforcement. If you don’t want to call 911, you may consider using a non-emergency police phone number.

It might be uncomfortable to talk to your parents when an online stranger makes you feel unsafe, but it is important to remember that your parents and the police are there to help. By cooperating with them, you may be able to prevent an online predator from harming others.
