Worthless for steaming video via lightning connector

The old app was nothing to rave about but it was functional. One of the nice features that you could connect a HDMI to lighting connector to your iPad and connect it to a monitor or TV and view it on a larger screen. This eliminated the need for an extra cable box. Well the new app now conveniently does not out video but only audio deeming this app unusable for that feature. Just another way for optimum to screw its customers again and requiring you to have to get another cable box as if we are not paying enough for service already. This was the single best feature I liked and now its gone. Maybe it’s time to switch providers after 28 years. Seems like price continues to go up and more and more features are removed. Recently they removed the mcAfee Antivirus they offered for free and now will charge you for that service. No reduction in price but an overall price increase. Not we lost the features of the app. What’s next.

Developer Response ,

Hi there. I understand your frustration. The legacy Optimum app and the new Optimum TV app are available to view live TV from the mobile device only. To watch live TV on a TV a cable box is required. If you have any other issues with the new Optimum TV app, send us an email to AppSupport@AlticeUSA.com with details so we can assist you further.

Oh boy, is this a stinker!

Optimum’s last app was no prize— see the reviews for it— but Optimum has managed to redsesign it with some improvement but also making some thing a bit worse.
It works reasonably well (slowly and with bugs) as its previous incarnation, but has eliminated the one good feature of the last app— the ability to keep watching one program on full screen while scrolling through the guide available on the sidebar, Now you have to close what you’re watching, or reduce it to postage stamp size, go to the full screen guide and select a new channel. Remember, each one of these steps takes 50-90 seconds at a minimum. Whether or not that’s Optimims fault I can’t say. The internet does not alway respond quickly but I’m sure their program doesn’t address that as a problem.
But I think this is clear: the primary reason people surf the TV screen is to get away from commercials. May I never have to hear from Car Stream and similar offensive ads.
But avoiding these hucksters requires an app that understands what it’s customers really want and helps them to achieve that goal, not inhibit it.
And now a brand new problem has arisen. I can’t watch TV at all this morning but instead get a red label warning that says there is a problem and should try again later. Nothing more infuriating then to be told there is a problem but not saying what the problem is.
You can solve this problem by deleting and reinstalling the app, but that again takes time.

New app is a step down from old one

This new version of the optimum is prettier, but harder to use. The older app probably did need an update, but this was not a step up in the way it should have been.
With this new version, searching is far e difficult. For example, if you search for a series that is on multiple channels, it shows the listings separated by channel, in order of date and episode. So in order to figure out if there is an episode on today, I have to check through all the listings, not just look from the bottom up or top down.
Also, I find it more difficult to record episodes, and when I’m going through the guide scrolling down can activate other features. Perhaps I just need to adjust to this new format, but right now I seriously miss the old outdated more basic app.
I really hope optimum and heir app developer will fix all the bugs and mistakes they made in their design of this new app!
