Description

Introducing the Orthodox Bible app! This app is the perfect resource for those who want to study and explore the Orthodox Christian faith. With the Orthodox Bible app, you can access the full text and audio of the Old and New Testament in both English and Church Slavonic, as well as a variety of other Orthodox Christian texts. The app also includes daily readings and a calendar of feasts and fasts, making it easy to stay connected to your faith every day. Whether you are a seasoned Orthodox Christian or just starting to learn about the faith, the Orthodox Bible app is an essential tool for your spiritual journey.

Use this app to track the dates of other religious holidays in the
Orthodox calendar such as Christmas, Epiphany, Theophany, and the Dormition of the Theotokos. These holidays are based on the liturgical Orthodox calendar, which is a cycle of readings and liturgical services that are used in the Orthodox churches. The liturgical Orthodox calendar follows the same patterns and themes throughout the year, and it is closely tied to the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

Why follow the Orthodox calendar:
- Mindfulness and introspection, humility recognizing one's own smallness in the grand scheme of God's plan and purpose.
- Build discipline and routine in one's spiritual practice
- Foster a deeper sense of connection to the divine
- Take time to reflect on the sacrifices and teachings of Jesus Christ by observing religious holidays
- Foster a sense of community and shared spiritual practice with other Eastern Orthodox believers.

The Orthodox calendar, also known as the Julian calendar, is the calendar used by many Eastern Orthodox churches around the world to determine the dates of religious holidays and observances. It is based on the Julian calendar, which was introduced by Julius Caesar in 45 BC and is currently 13 days behind the Gregorian calendar. The Orthodox calendar has different dates for Easter and other religious holidays, which are based on the liturgical calendar. It is an important part of the religious tradition and culture of the Eastern Orthodox churches.

The Orthodox calendar is currently 13 days behind the Gregorian calendar, which is widely used in the Western world. This difference is due to the fact that the Orthodox churches did not adopt the Gregorian calendar, which was introduced in 1582 by Pope Gregory XIII as a reform of the Julian calendar. The Gregorian calendar has a leap year rule that eliminates the accumulated error of the Julian calendar, so the Orthodox church still use the Julian calendar.

The Orthodox calendar follows the same month names as the Julian calendar, which are: January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November and December. However, the Orthodox calendar has different dates for Easter, which is the most important religious holiday for Christians. The Orthodox Easter is always celebrated on the Sunday following the first full moon after the vernal equinox. This is different from the Western Easter, which is always celebrated on the Sunday following the first full moon on or after the vernal equinox.

StormLover4 ,

Finally, an app for us Orthodox Christians!

Great job guys, I purchased a subscription to happily keep this going. Looking forward to seeing what future things you have in store with this app. Thank you, and God Bless!

Developer Response ,

Hello! Thank so much for giving us 5 starts and an excellent review of our Orthodox Bible and Calendar app! I also want to say THANK YOU for buying a subscription without complaint. Of course we would love for everyone to have free access to the entire app, but building and maintaining a mobile application takes a lot of time and money. The subscriptions are to help us get to a point where it can be free for all to use. We are a very small team, and we choose to do this without pay and despite the financial or time burden on us. People like you who understands this keeps us going, as we get A LOT of messages about how 'it should be free' and how 'we are profiting off of God'. These narratives couldn't be further from the truth so hearing messages like yours definitely encourages us to keep going! We are not backed by a major church with a huge budget; we do it simply as a way to show our devotion to being Orthodox and to help others build a better/stronger connection with our Lord, literally in the palm of their hands. It is not always easy work, but it is always worth the work. Again, thank you so much and may God Bless you and your family in all the best ways.

Terrible App.

Don’t get me wrong, I am orthodox. The biggest flaw with this application is that it’s made to make money. You can’t read the bible unless your connected to the internet, there is an add after every button you touch, even if your connected to the internet the only thing you can do is read the bible. You can’t listen to the audio books and other stuff. God is not a means of making money. If they had just made the app completely free form subscription and advertising it would have easily been a 5 star and one of the most downloaded apps. If your going through the reviews to see if it’s worth it let me tell you it’s not. I’m being completely honest here.

Hi Abrsh21,

I am sorry to hear you are frustrated about the ads in the app. Ideally, we would not want to put ads in the Orthodox Bible, but developing and maintaining apps in the app stores costs quite a bit of money. In addition, we are a very small team of believers who work full time, do not get paid to do this, and are only able to work on it in our spare time. We do have a very low cost monthly and yearly version without any ads. It is our hope that enough people who can afford the app will buy it, help us cover the costs of maintaining the app, putting in new features, etc, and have it available free for everyone. We are a new app and still have a lot of improvements and development work to do, which is extremely expensive. Unfortunately, many apps may tell you they are free and do not have ads, but are likely hiding many of their best features from you unless you are a premium subscriber. If this is not the case, they are financially well supported by mega churches to cover all of their technology needs. Unfortunately, we do not have this kind of support. I hope this helps you understand our reasoning. Thank you and God Bless.

Ads in the Bible?!

This just seems wrong on a serious level. I can read literally any other version of the Bible through apps like YouVersion and Blue Letter. Only orthodox is excluded. And then the “free” app has ads? And not just ads…constant ads. I had to go through 3 ads just to get to a point where I could actually access any scripture…and then there’s an ad banner while I’m trying to read. And still…all this could be forgiven if I could just buy the app and be done with it. But no. It’s a subscription. This just feels shameful. This is NOT how we promote the faith. And yet I am the only negative review. Nobody else has a problem with the shameless monetization of God’s word here? I’m just in disbelief.

In addition, we are a very small team of believers who work full time, do not get paid to do this, and are only able to work on it in our spare time. We do have a very low cost monthly and yearly version without any ads. Thank you for suggesting a one time purchase; it is certainly on our radar, and we are trying to make this financially feasible. It is our hope that enough people who can afford the app will buy it, help us cover the costs of maintaining the app, putting in new features, etc, and have it available free for everyone.
