I love the app. I was hooked on their channel and their programs were inspiring and informative. My favorite recreational activities are cycling, hiking and kayaking. But all of the sudden they went of the air. So I tried desperately to find out about where could I watch my shows. So I downloaded this app which is filled with fascinating articles and blogs. But there’s nothing about kayaking. I also subscribed to the magazine. But again, nothing on kayaking. Other than that I love the app and that’s why I gave it five stars. _ Burtart1
Convenient for saving and reading articles, frustrating to use or provide links
Tech-disappointed-dad
It’s nice to have a dedicated place for all of Outside’s articles on my phone but two big criticisms. 1. The search function is just terrible. It’s better than the website, but wish there were more filters to refine a search. At least the first results aren’t from 1998 and unrelated to what I was searching for unlike the website. 2. When I open links from Outside’s newsletter, they open automatically in my browser rather than the app. And there’s not a prompt to open the article in the app. Similarly, when I’ve linked to recipes in my family’s meal plan from the app, and accessed the meal plan from another device to click on the link, rather than sending me to the website on the laptop without the app, I was redirected to a link to download the app. It seems like the website and app are pulling from different sources since there’s no crossover. I’m not a tech-savvy person or designer, but it seems like there should be something in the links that sees if you have the app, and if so opens the app and if not opens the website, similar to Instagram (hate that I used that positively).
Was ok not great now unusable
Esmmerlaus
Was always an ok app. Some usabilities proposed by many have been brushed off in lieu of being considered and potentially implemented. An example is the feed not being relevant for the publication of interest. In lieu of letting the user either select publication upfront ( not down toward the end of the app) you have to scroll all the way down etc. The app could use two view: subscribe and for you for example, that way one doesn’t have to do multiple scroll and click to get to it content. That said, now the app is not working at all since last release and always says : we crashed. It is not the first time a release does that. It is sad that this is happening the week of Kona- woman only!!!!!

Mediocre app from a garbage company
Ripped off and sadd
The app is fine for the most part. When it works. I’ve had numerous times where it logs me out and no matter how much I reset the password it doesn’t work. I usually end up having to contact customer support to regain access. The worst part is typical outside magazine trash. From the recommendations for gear being more costly than the average American can afford. The magazine should change its name to “the outside magazine for the rich.” You’d think you need to be a millionaire just go take a hike in the outdoors. Best shirt recommendations and everything is pushing $100. Best backpacks and they’re close to pushing $400. Bike recommendations and they’re all $4,000 plus. I get that you guys need to shill to make money but Jesus. Maybe be a bit more inclusive ???Don’t get me started on the app having an astrology tab as well. lol. Outside magazine. Where our motto is we will attempt to brand and sell anything if you’re dumb enough to pay the exorbitant cost. Wish this company went under and backpacker stayed alive. It’s a husk of its former self You’re better off lighting your money on fire than contributing to these jokers.
