Upping my aerobic capacity
At 75 I’ve been doing push-ups for the past year and a half. Started during the pandemic. Do 30-40 with 3-4 sets daily. However my aerobic or cardio fitness probably needed to improve so I was lacking there. Like many I bought an elliptical and used it for awhile but it became a dust collector. My wife has since stopped nagging me to throw it away bc I always yeah her. I always look at it and tell myself I have to start using it again but you know how that goes. Well I did start using it after reading so many articles and stories about heart health. Yeah, people my age die every day from heart disease. So after scaring myself I finally got on the elliptical. Not going crazy with it and started’ walking’ 10 minutes daily. Man my cardio abilities are not the greatest but finally doing what I need to do. I’m using the pedometer app attempting 5000 steps daily. With a torn meniscus I really can’t get outdoors to accomplish this goal. Sometimes I don’t feel the app accurately records my total steps but it keeps me motivated in any event. My elliptical keeps it’s own record of distance but I also use it as a timer mostly. The iPhone app does record just the distance I record walking in and around the house and whenever I’m out and about. So yes I do recommend this app as a motivator if anything to reach your daily steps goal
Simple and intrinsically rewarding
I love this pedometer, I downloaded it after seeing it recommended on the Health app on my iPhone and immediately was loved the barebone layout–the app is exactly as advertised, no fancy (confusing) bells or whistles and the best part - no constant spam trying to get you to download or spend money on the app or anything else. I love that you set your daily goal and can earn badges for going above and beyond your goal, monthly challenges, special streak challenges and lifetime step and floor goals to work towards and it’s completely autonomous (!!!) so refreshing especially if your just getting active again or like myself devote your physical fitness and working out to making yourself feel good - not to share your weekly stats with friends/co-workers or family like so many other apps these days. Hitting my goals gives me a sense of satisfaction and this app have helped me reach them in a healthy way–the only thing I would love added is a breakdown by day to see how much you walked by hour but yeah download this app more than work it - thank you pedometer++ team!!! :) P.S. if you go into settings you can see how much you’ve walked since getting the app in terms of marathons, Ironman etc. which is also a cool thing worth checking out that i’m sure many people miss!
Things I would like to see
Great app, works all the time, and has never failed to keep accurate data. I like the idea that I can export the data and do some calculations on a spreadsheet by myself.
Here are a few other things that I would like to see in the app, both running and walking. Personal best section that’s always visible in the stat section or perhaps even on the main page so it can be seen easily at a glance. Some of those that I would suggest would be. Personal best for day week month and year for number of steps, number of miles, Number of flights of stairs. In the section where you have total number of miles and relate that to number of trips from New York to Los Angeles you could also keep a running stat on progress around the world at the equator or some other goal that is not easy to achieve but would be interesting to try to perhaps circumvent the United States etc.
I have more ideas but I’ll keep it short. My last suggestion would be in the tip section. Today I wanted to give a tip but it was limited to $1.99 and I wanted to give more but I did not see a way to change the entry. That should be fixed first.
