Power Pet Door 4+

I purchased the power pet wifi at additional money for the wifi feature. As an IT person let me explain what’s going on. Power Pet is suppose to maintain a DDNS Server, this server is no longer up and running, therefore everyone who has power pet wifi will not have wifi working on app. I spoke with the company about this and was told it was being worked on. The part I have a massive problem with is as follows, they still sell the product and make no mention that wifi won’t work, I find that to be shameful and legally do not get me started. The woman I spoke with while nice did not sound confident this would be resolved anytime soon. This was already many months ago. Anyone looking to buy wifi DONT. whatever persons post it works, is one of two things, a: at home on same network, or B: the company making fake posts. When it works I will post an update. Don’t waste time calling and “doing the steps”, it’s only to make it appear you are the only customer, untrue. The server that hosts our expensive pet doors is DOWN. Last update posted on App Store 2 years ago. There needs to be a class action lawsuit. These are knowingly being sold broken!

I waited almost a year to write this review. I sent an email to support soon after buying this door and complained about the same issues others have noted with this app. At that time they stated they were working to correct the issues. It took much longer than they stated, but the app does work now. I get my notifications, the timer works perfectly if you configure it properly. There are some nuances you must account for, but I’m now happy with the app. Be aware that if you have an in/out schedule/timer, it overrides manual inputs. If you have the timer on and it’s currently scheduled for the door to allow entry, then the timer overrides if you manually turn off entry mode. Your manual entry will work for a few seconds, then the timer schedule will turn it back on/off depending on what you programmed. If you want to manually control the door, then turn off the timer.

Thanks for listening to your user base and correcting the shortcomings of the app. I also felt I had paid extra for features not provided, but I’m happy now.

I have had the same issue as many in the reviews with this WiFi door. What I have discovered is that if you plug the door into a smart outlet and once you open the app, if you briefly power off the smart ourlet and back on, the door will regain the “world network” function. It’s not 100% and also can take up to a minute if it does connect, but unless the devs do any additional updates (which they have not done in almost a year) this may be a door hack that works to at least get the dog out while you’re away. Be cautious however in case you lose the connection your dog may have to stay outside for a while.

Mechanically it works great. It’s operation is smooth and it blends into the wall pretty well as doors go. If I simply wanted to let the dog out from within the local network using the app, the connection seems to be pretty stable. Overall however, knowing these details about the WiFi app and poor developer response, I would not have purchased this particular product.

NOTE: if the developers fix the “world network” connection, I would gladly change my 1 star review.
