Great idea

This is a really awesome idea to be able to create custom sheets but it’s no there quiet yet. It’s kinda complicated to use and I couldn’t find just a blank default template to work on.

One way to start a fresh template is to find a white background image then you can use that.

Like my subject says, great idea. Still has a lot of work to make it more user friendly and more usable in general

Thank you for the review! I really think this app could be pretty cool! I think you definitely hit on some of the biggest challenges being flow of creating a sheet and using it and then the customization. I think the customization is something that will come with time (especially the blank sheet idea that we had discussed, I think after thinking it through that is something I could easily just implement in the app without people having to randomly procure a white background). As far as the flow goes, that I think is going to be the biggest thing. Its gonna take a big of time but I think we will get there, one small step at a time!

It Has Potential, But...

I love the idea for this app. However, in its current state, it’s hard to recommend it. I tried it out hoping to take all my favorite character sheets and, with time and effort, make them work digitally. However, even the default built in sheets feel cluttered due to the big opaque colored rectangles present wherever you want to put a text box, and when I try to use a sheet, I found the way the screen immediately zoomed and snapped away to move the text box I’m typing in to the top left corner jarring and inconvenient.

The functionality is also in my opinion FAR too limited. With the only 4 options being a single line text box, a multi line text box, a toggle-able button, and an image, it lacks any option to utilize more advanced tools to make it match up with non-custom character sheet apps like the ability to create a numerical box you could add or subtract from, tie values together so changes to one are reflected in another, or set defaults to instantly reset a characters health and the like.

I’m torn, because while I love the idea and think with some improvements this app could be a game-changer, in its current state I can’t recommend it over a PDF editor to somebody looking to use their favorite custom character sheets or build their own on iOS, and I can’t recommend it over other character sheet apps to somebody looking for a functional digital character sheet.

Hello n8opot8oW! Thank you for taking the time to write this in-depth review! I agree with all your points and I think you bring up a couple of interesting thoughts. I would to address some of your comments below:
1. As far as cluttered goes, I think that maybe having the option to make these boxes transparent or change the color to something less aggressive might help this be easier to visualize.
2. Zooming - So I have played with this a ton and have yet to really find a really good mixture of zooming and positioning that is consistent. I think that your comment has brought up a thought that I am about to implement into the prismscroll dnd player app which allows users to change a setting that lets you edit content through a popup window instead of editing the content directly on the sheet. This would solve the weird zooming issues by removing them entirely while also providing a consistent way to present content. With there only being a few types content types, this would be pretty easy to implement, so look into that
3. So this is a work in progress! So I know that you posted this review right when i released an update that added 4 new views that you can add (static labels/images/a pop up detail button/static background shapes and the ability to make single line textfields a numberfield instead of letters). So the ability to add connections between content is the end goal but I have a few more things I need to get set up before I can. One thing I can do now since it is related to individual views and something I hadnt really thought about is having a reset value. That is something I can add this week so stay tuned!
4. Yeah, I think the main point is that right now, this app isnt the "best" at anything right now when you think about the other tools out there. I think that it does have simplicity and cost efficiency when you compare it to things like a pdf editor. But yes, I think once there are connections and some more flexibility, this will be a pretty awesome app! I like the potential of the app and I think once I implement some of the things you mentioned and some of my own plans that it will be pretty amazing :)

Hey! This is pretty good!

I was really looking for an app that would allow me to make character sheets for other RPGs that were not 5e, pathfinder, Starfinder etc. As I tend to branch out to other RPGs, such as RISUS, OVA and etc. Of course the problem with finding apps forsaking character sheets for those is impossible as they lack the popularity to get their own apps.

However when I heard about this app and the fact you could create any type of character sheet for any type of game, I was excited but skeptical. I jumped right into making a template for a RISUS character sheet, using an image of a RISUS character sheet template. To my surprise I was able to make a character sheet just like the original RISUS character sheet! The level of customization and detail you can put into the character sheets is incredible and met my relatively simple needs. I am going to try and make a more complicated sheet next from OVA and look forward to making that work as well. With all the customization options for creating easily translatable character sheets, I see myself using this app for a long time to come!

Thank you for the indepth review! I think the sheets app is great for the exact reason that you mentioned and it is the main reason I created the app. There are so many awesome rpg games and many of them unfortunately do not have as much developer support as they deserve. The sheets app gives people an option, that may not have the professional grade Adobe acrobat style pdf editors which can be clunky for a task like this/overcomplicated, to create something for the games that they play. I am glad you have been able to put it to good use :)
