overview

so far I tried surf tracing, running and swimming.
The ripcurl GPS 2 watch seems to track surfing more accurate than the previous watch. However, I guess it disregards short distance waves. Previous version used to included every attempt you paddle, whereas this one seems to record only 20 meters long waves or longer than that.
Swimming in the pool was very disappointing. I swam 4.4 Km whileas the watch recorded 6.4 km. The photo was very odd, as if I had swum in dry surfaces areas adjacent to the pool. I noticed there is a delay on speed. When you have just completed a set and are waiting to go for another, the speed last few seconds until goes to zero speed.
Please reply whether you can fix these items above. I enjoy the watch despite of these negative points...

The best feature about the GPS watch...no longer exists!

I have been surfing since 1987 and got the original RipCurl GPS1. Over the past couple years I have had the GPS2 watch. I am addicted to it...and if I forget to wear the watch for a surf...I have to go home and get it. However, Rip Curl just deleted THE BEST FEATURE when they released the GPS3 - the ability to read your GPS coordinates live while surfing. What this means is that you no longer had to triangulate objects on the coast in order to know where you sit in the lineup. I could paddle out at my home break and sit pretty much exactly where I want to purely based on memorizing the last portion of GPS digits which relate to specific parts of the reef or recent sandbar. If a rip current pushes everyone in the lineup off the peak...I know exactly where to paddle back to. I also love this for surf trips. You can step off the plane in somewhere like Nicaragua...never know the break...but after sitting near the takeoff you can again memorize the last digits of the GPS coordinates and quickly sit as deep as you want and catch a ton of waves...just like you have the place wired from years of knowledge. Anyway...not sure if what I described makes sense...but managing where you sit in the lineup based on GPS and not via triangulation was by far...a game changer for any surfer. If possible…Rip Curl should release a software update that brings back live GPS readings on the watch.

Surfline sessions issues and user interface

I used to love this app but as of the last few weeks it’s gone through a massive redevelopment for the worst. I still love my rip curl search watch but Surfline was confident they fixed an issue where the sessions weren’t syncing from the rip curl watch and the new rip curl search app itself has a terrible new interface. It gets stuck on different loading screens, loses its menu buttons frequently, is extremely difficult to navigate compared to the previous model, and now you have to pay for what you used to get just from owning the watch. Why add a payed subscription fee to an already $300+ watch with great features just to make extra pocket cash. I’m hoping it will be fixed as I still enjoy my watch and continue to use it but sessions don’t sync and the companion app is not the greatest currently
