Ratings and Reviews
Prefer it over the WaterRower app
I bought the S4 Bluetooth conversion module and I already had the SmartRow installed.
My preference is for the SmartRow. It provides more information, history and is easier to use although it is much harder to install... but once installation is done it is easier to use and offers a richer experience.
My only regret is I bought the Bluetooth S4 module
Makes the Waterrower even better
I have had my Waterrower for a couple of years now and have used it to lose lots of weight. It’s the best rower I have ever used, but I wasn’t a fan of the S4 monitor that comes with it. The SmartRow upgrade is a huge improvement over the S4 to to the accuracy, configurability, and modern features. The app has room for some great future additions, but for now it helps me accurately measure my performance and keep track of my workouts. Installation is a little tricky if you don’t follow the instructions exactly. I accidentally unwound the tension cable, but Waterrower has many maintenance videos on their site, including a video on rewrapping the belts. Highly recommended.
Awkward to connect, stats are questionable
I was excited about this app and SmartRow hardware addition to the my WaterRower, finally being able to connect a smart phone via Bluetooth with the rower. It’s somewhat clunky to connect because you have to start rowing for the phone to connect. Then you you have to manually hit a button in the app to connect and begin rowing again. Also, the readings in the app are more than 10% different from the readings on the original S4 monitor. I find that difficult to believe the monitor was that far off from the power readings on the smartrow app. SmartRow’s response to my data was that there should only be a 2-4% difference and yet offered no explanation or advice as to why mine is so far off. After years of S4 data and training to it, I’m not sure this leap to Bluetooth connectivity was worth the $275 price. Additionally, the app doesn’t run in the background so if I switch to another app like my heart rate monitor meters row aren’t captured in SmartRow.
Update: still horrible. Contacting water rower for a refund
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
